In China, schools have been creative on how they collect extra money. Students are required to pay an extra of 200 yuan (SGD39) to have a seat next to the radiator (heater). Parents who do not pay this extra money will have their child seated far from the radiator. One other way of collecting extra money from students and parents is to ask students to pay up for after school enrichment classes. Although these payments are optional, there are definitely reprisal for students who do not pay up. Students might be made to sit at the back of the classroom, or even risk falling behind grades.
