  Colmar, France

  Illuminated by lights and decorated beautifully, the Old Town district of Colmar has a magical historic setting. Each year, Colmarians seem to compete with each other for the best-decorated stall. There are several markets in the town, with one devoted exclusively to children.

  During the Christmas holidays Piazza Navona, a landmark located in the heart of Rome, is decorated with thousands of colored lights. The square is filled with booths selling Christmas ornaments, Murano-style glass jewellery and toys.

  Inspired by the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, the Christkindlmarket Chicago market pays homage to a beloved European tradition. It has a particularly German feel: visitors can buy Gluwein, strudel, schnitzel, sauerkraut and more.

  The market at the Old Town Square in Prague is packed with traditional wooden stalls that sell traditional Czech specialities including glasswork, metalware and ceramics. For food lovers, vendors at the market make delicious corn on the cob and trdelnik (dough fried with cinnamon and sugar).
