STOMPer Friday was travelling along Loyang Avenue yesterday (June 2) when he saw a truck carrying soil flipped to its side. Further up the road, he also saw three cars that were involved in another accident.
In an email to STOMP yesterday (June 2), the STOMPer says:
“This accident happened on 2 June at 11.14am along Loyang Avenue towards Tampines Ave 7.
“I was in a colleague's car when I noticed that the traffic was getting congested in front. The first thing that came to my mind was that there was a traffic accident in front.
“As I was looking out for the vehicles involved in the accident, I was shocked to see a truck carrying soil flipped onto its side. Besides spilling the soil onto the road, the truck also damaged the central divider.
“Not wanting to hold up the traffic, my colleague drove on.
“Just about 80 metres in front, we saw the original source of the traffic build-up.
“Three cars were involved in an accident. My colleague wound down the window and informed the Traffic Police at the accident scene about the truck that was flipped over to its side.”
STOMP contacted the Police and their spokesperson said:“Police received a call yesterday at about 11.15am informing us of an overturned truck along Loyang Ave towards Tampines Ave 7.
“The truck driver, a Chinese man in his fifties, sustained injuries to the neck and head. He was conveyed conscious to Changi General Hospital.
“Police investigations are ongoing.”
In the New Paper, it was said that the traffic light camera down the slope (about 100m away from the junction) could have caused the accident. Residents living along the road said that this is the reason why accidents occur frequently. Motorists cannot spot the camera in advance as they speed down the slope. By the time they see it, they start to lock their brakes.
In response, Mr Gerrard Ee has said that warning signs would be installed, but the speed camera would remain.
