I thought I was the only mad bastard who tried biking along the drain to see how far it would go.
I gave up 3/4 way because I was fed-up with bashing through overgrown grass and fallen trees.
But....the scenery was indeed good. Despite the curses heaped onto me by my friends...
The best scenery offered is at the mouth of the canal at Tanah Merah Ferry Ter. Stray dogs inhabit that area although they are generally ok with people. The breeze there, with the sea-gulls around you is well-worth the distance extended into the sea.
There are 2 drains that run paraell to the park connector, ie. the north drain and the south drain. The mouth of the north drain is near Changi Aviation Park and the mouth of the south drain is near Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal. The 2 drains do not connect to each other. There is forested area between the 2 drains. I had to get out to the park connector after reaching the end of either one of the drain.
The overgrown grass and fallen trees is at the north drain. South drain also has fallen trees but they fell into the drain not onto the path. So it is easier to walk alongside the south drain.
Agreed with you that the nice scenery there is at the mouth of the south drain, I have been to the end of the rock bund where there is a yellow beacon. Can see Batam and also our CBD in the distance on a clear day.

Yeah......the scenery there is quite fantastic.
But I don't like that area....cos it reminds me of work which is at the end of the Changi spit.
But now when I go there, it is a mixed feeling......nostalgia mixed with gladness that I am leaving that area soon.
I have seen enough of the sea and it's time to move on.
And there's the guardian of the canal mouth.
Great place to unwind.

What work is being carried out at Changi spit?

I'm a NSF serving with RSN...about to ORD.
The above pics were taken near Tanah Merah Ferry Ter....at the mouth of the S Drain.
Actually we could do with a biking trip from E Coast to Pasir Ris, via Changi and then back via Tampines, Bedok thus completing a loop around the East.
Circuit distance is roughly 45 km. I've tried that route 3 times and on average requires roughly 4+ hrs at a leisurely pace.....best done at night.
Very manageable route with plenty of scenery to take in on the 1st leg that hugs the eastern coast. And at least there's no lack of ammenities on this route.

S Drain refers to the South Drain? Or is there a other drain?
Because everytime I was there at the mouth of the south drain, I couldn't see the naval base, only can see Tanah Merah Ferry terminal.

Many years ago, I had a night cycling trip with my friends, from East Coast Park to Changi and back. We had a stopover at Bedok South for supper.
The route taken was:
ECP > Bedok South > New Upp Changi Rd > Upp Changi Rd East & North > Loyang Ave > Changi Village > Changi Beach > Changi Coast Rd > ECP Service Rd > ECP

You won't be able to see the base....that's for sure.
Yup, south drain.
There's now a PCN connecting Pasir Ris and East Coast......not bad stuff at all, kudos to the govt.
