OSAKA--A high school student in Toyonaka, Osaka Prefecture, hanged himself in the school's broadcasting club room on the morning of Feb. 27.
Yutaro Kishi, 16, from Takarazuka, Hyogo Prefecture, who was in his first year at Daisho Gakuen High School, tried to strangle himself with a judo belt in his classroom the day before his apparent suicide, but classmates stopped him. His homeroom teacher also intervened, but informed the principal of the incident only on the afternoon of the day of the suicide.
A member of Kishi's family said angrily, "If they informed us earlier, we might have been able to stop the suicide."
Principal Shigeki Hamachi said, "The homeroom teacher could not have foreseen the suicide just from seeing the student's attitude the day before."
