TOKUSHIMA--A wounded stray dog with a wire coiled around its neck was rescued in Anan, Tokushima Prefecture, on Thursday, city officials said.
At about 7 p.m. Thursday, health center workers responded to a phone call, and found a female dog caught inside a trap at a parking lot in the city. Near the trap was a male dog with a 1.1-meter-long wire coiled around its neck. The officials spent two hours trying to capture the dog but ended up getting a veterinarian to tranquilize it.
The dog had a cut three centimeters to four centimeters deep around its neck, but is expected to recover in a few weeks. The dog is believed to be 5 years old and weighs 16 kilograms.
"We'll see if it will be able to make a good pet for a new owner, after its recovery," an official at the Tokushima Prefectural Animal Welfare Center said.
