Dutch playmaker is stalling on a move to Turkey as he would prefer to play in the Premier League - if anyone can afford him
Liverpool have made a sensational bid to hijack Wesley Sneijder’s move from Inter Milan to Galatasaray, writes the Sunday People.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers thinks he has a good chance of luring the 28-year-old Holland star to the Premier League – even though Inter have already accepted an £8.2million deal from the Turkish side.
Sneijder, who has fallen out with Inter bosses, is stalling on the Gala deal because he would prefer to play in England – and Liverpool are ready to offer him the chance.
Wages are a problem – Sneijder is on £160,000 a week at the San Siro.
Club president Massimo Moratti wanted him to take a pay cut but Sneijder refused and that’s why the Italians are ready to let him go in a cut-price deal.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson backed off from a deal for Sneijder two years ago with the Dutchman reportedly asking for £220,000 a week.
That was on top of a £40m transfer fee for a player who cost Inter £13m when he moved to Italy from Real Madrid in 2009.
Sneijder is currently on more than Steven Gerrard is earning at Anfield but, given that low transfer fee, Rodgers believes he can land a top star comparatively cheaply.
Dream team: Liverpool want to team up Sneijder with Gerrard
Kop managing director Ian Ayre has been in talks with Liverpool’s Boston-based owners in the last 24 hours to see if a deal is feasible.
The prospect of seeing Sneijder team up with Gerrard in the middle of the park will get Liverpool fans buzzing before today’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.
i really dont think so most likely will end up like another joe cole
i rather wait for this season to end and try for xabi alonso if possible
Cannot afford it.
Sneijder don't really want to go to the Turkish league and is waiting for a premier league side to come in for him but so far none has... Maybe Pool might fancy him and who knows, with United, Chelsea and City not keen, he may just be left with Pool or Turkish football... Also Pool can afford his £160,000 a week...
Wait Joe Allen not happy.
This player have a big ego.
Ah Rod have a bigger ego.
Liverpool have no money to buy him.
Joe Allen is Ah Rod's pet even if he played like crap.
Ah Rod is a small time manager trying to act big.
He is still far and miles away from Alex.
Later Downing and Henderson not happy also.
