[Noob] Starting a collection

Hullo all...
Thinking of starting out at this terribly addictive hobby, but i need some advice...
Would like to know, when you guys started, where did you get your 'pioneer models'?
Price is a BIIIIIIIG factor for me as I have virtually no budget, cos no income. 15 only.
LH83 told me that I can start out with Motormaxs from TRU, but i've seen some Hot Wheels models online, but not physically yet. Any chances on getting those in Singapore, and where (and of course the price
)?

You can check those shopping centres for budget models like Maisto, Bburago and motormax... Some other places to get Hot Wheels might be from Jacky from motorsport at meritus mandarin, but it might be a bit more ex...Originally posted by FatPenguin:Hullo all...

Alternatively, you could check the For Sale sticky in the forums... see if anyone is selling some budget models.. I think there are some on sale now...

I would say save your money 1st! Dun buy becoz you are collecting. Save some money and target your fav model. Look at wat you be collecting? Are you goin to set any theme in your collection? Save the money and get your 1st fav model! Buy something you are happy with! Its an expensive hobby! Know your limit and collect to your own theme! We are here to help each others! Buy something you like! Its your money, your hobby! Welcome onboard! Cheers!!

Yea i think piglet is right.. Save up and get your fav model! Get the model that you really love!
Price wise, for brands like maisto, welly etc, the average is around 30-40..
For hotwheel elite, prices will be from $60 up.. -
piglette has changed. suppossed to collect flowers in 100 acre wood now collect diecast

unless, u have rich parents who are willing to sponser u money for AA or kyosho, i guess u have to make do with masito.
but 1st, ask urself are u happy with the details of those maisto models?
money is the main factor in the hobby, followed by space constraint -

We've been there, done that, so we know.
Also recommend u decide on e kinda cars u love,
& decide on a theme.
Most of us started out collecting randomly frm Maisto, Burago & HWs,
& ended up :
1) Craving for models on higher ends eg. Autoart, Kyosho, den BBR & CMC.
2) Selling away budget models & restartin a theme frm scratch (waste of $)
Reason i'm saying tis is because
i've started out collecting randomly,
& spent tonnes of time & money trying to sell away old models,
jus to rebuild my JDM theme.
Cos for a 15yr old teenager as u,
i recommend u decide on e theme, & your first model,
den save up to buy 1 good model instead of many lower-end ones.
I saved up 9mths for my first gd model i didnt regret,
which was e UT McLaren #59 i got frm NIKKO tat time.

Hi, i started wuth cheap-er stuff like maisto and bburago too. those models are ok in terms of looks. As i have always said to link, 'as long as the car looks proportionate and right' its ok. the details are of course as those three-figure ones but they are certainly a good start for those on a budget. By starting on cheaper ones, you tend to be able to appreciate the more expensive ones later as well because of the intricate details!

Yep, my first model was a Burago Ferrari 360 Modena for $50. I bought it on impulse becoz I absolutely loved the design of F360 back then. I never regretted buying that.. Slowly from Burago I went to HW and then randomly exploded to IXO, Spark, Autoart, Looksmart, BBR and UT.
Now sticking with mainly UT Mclaren F1s but I still have a variety of the other models left. -

My dad is working at Bentley, already got a 1/43 of the CGT, CFS and Speed8, but i CRAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE a 1/18 model.
I'll be going exotic, no JDM one please (no offence to the JDM collectors hor).
I'll definitely be startin with cheap ones, can't afford a $150 AutoArt model.

Got a sense of achievement when you finally get your first AutoArt.
I can't be too picky now, as long as the paintwork is good and the car is accurate design-wise, it's fine for me.
Prolly will start with the budget ones, then progress to expensive. -
