no offense...i dun buy porsches cos they have the laziest design in the whole world...all look the same....buy 1 enough already....
only porsche i've got is the 917K LM...but looking for carerra GT.....thats a good porsche

Well, not true.
Porsche cars are designed this way due to its racing history,
& more importantly, its heritage.
I was a design student, & quite into automobile styling,
so i feel it's due to its history, heritage & identity.
For example, if u look at AstonMartin,
DB7, 8, 9 & even Vanquish all look quite e same
in terms of exterior styling.
When u see a Lambo, u noe it's a Lambo.
U wont mistake it as a Ferrari or Merc.
Why? Styling patterns
This is how car manufacturers build up their macque. -
go look at BMW and merc...all their designs evolved thru the ages while keeping their trademarks like dbl kidney grilles....look at porsches....compare the cayman and the 911...what they did is just put a 911 roof on a boxter thats it....Originally posted by ypeich:Well, not true.

and the new 997 911? Exactly the same as the old one....couldnt tell the diff frm its predecessor at one glance....which is y i say they have the laziest designers in the world and can u tell me do the coutach,diablo or the murcielago look EXACTLY the same? its a world of difference? only trademark is the scisscor doors and the shape thats it....i am serious if u compare the current gen 911 to the prev gen u couldnt really tell the diff from one glance...even the range also looks abt the same.... -

while i said the same thing about Aston to tofu, in fairness, We have to look at RECENT porsche design evolution. From the 996 to the 997, the cars are basically alike from the outside, with the exception of a few differences.
Honestly they haven't been trying very hard to evolve the look. Heritage can only go so far to explain a slack off in design innovation. Look at the way the 430 evolved from the 360. Obviously ferrari, but hardly alike. Look at the old SL and current gen SL. I can say the same thing. The Diablo and the Murcielago don't look like each other even tho they're unmistakably Lambos.
On the other hand, looking at the 996 and 997 from the rear, without a detailed examination, you'd be hard pressed to tell me which one's a 996 and which one's a 997. Ditto that for the 2 generations of Boxsters. Even aston, with its remarkably similiar design, I can still tell the difference between models. and u won't mistake a current gen aston with a previous gen one. the same, cannot be said of the last 2 generations of porsche models.
No matter what justifications they give for the non-movement in design, u cannot say it's not true that they've been somewhat lazy. As an automotive and motorsport engineering student who has to cover BOTH aesthetic design AND engineering design, I have to say that while u've raised valid points, u've missed out on the fact that many other companies do not let heritage and identity stangnate their design evolutions. -
Even top gear said that the designers are lazy in the episode where they compare the 996 and 997 carrera...
