Dear all,
I'm posting because I desperately need to rehome my elderly hamsters. They are already 2 years old, and so are unlikely to live more than another 6 months - 1 year.
I am forced to move to Australia in December, so I need to find charitable people willing to take in an elderly hamster and give it a safe place to live out its golden years.
If I cannot find kind people in time, I must give to the SPCA who will likely kill them because of their age.
They come in their box, with all toys etc.
I list them below:
Please meet Miss Xiaohuang.
Type: Winter White
Gender: Female
Character: Elderly, but still active. Does not like to be held.
Age: 2 years exactly.
Housing: Oversized plastic tub (the huge kind, bigger than most commercial cages), wheel, hidey house, toys.
Reason of giving up the hamster: I must move to Australia by January and Australia does not allow the import of rodents - so I cannot bring her with me.
Meet Miss Pisola.
Her name means sleepy-head in Italian. We called her that because ever since she was little she sometimes looks like she is slow to wake up...a kind of blur blur expression. Very cute!
She is 2 years old, a lovely elderly lady. She's been a mummy Miss Xiaopang, Miss Ah Lian and Miss Xiaohuang, who are also on this list, when she was much younger. She enjoys mealworms, veggie cakes from the petshop and sometimes a tiny bit of parmesan cheese.
She is very active for her age and loves to run on the wheel in the evenings. She's quite friendly also :-)
Meet Miss Lucrezia,
She has been named after Lucrezia Borgia, who is a bit of a villain in Italian history (my hubby is Italian), because she's a real trouble maker with other hamsters. She's a bit of a bully, and she's the first hamster I had to separate out when they were all together. She's not so aggressive with people, but she doesn't really like to be handled all that much so I give her toys (she loves cardboard toilet roll tubes) but leave her alone.
She takes food from her food-bowl and hides it in a pile in her house. She also likes to run a lot, eat mealworms and is very active for her age (2 years).
This is Miss Xiaopang, who is the largest of three sisters. She likes very much to be left alone - as do her two sisters, to be honest. None of them (Ah Lian, Xiaohuang, or this one Xiaopang) are particularly fond of being handled. They are the daughters of Pisola and Bianco, and so are also themselves about 2 years old now.
She is less of a runner and more of a burrower. We give her litter made from recycled newspaper and she's always tunneling in it. She also loves to play in tissue paper.
This is Miss Ah Lian, the third sister. Like her other siblings, she doesn't like being taken out of her cage and isn't very social. She just likes to be left alone to dig, run on the wheel and look cute.
She is very cute. Especially when she curls herself up in a little tissue nest like in the picture.
Meet Mr Bischero.
His name means 'stupid' in Italian, something that he earned in his interactions with the other hamsters (they were originally all housed together in a giant cage until they started fighting). He used to be a bit hysterical and throw himself on his back and squeak even when another hamster just passed him by - very paranoid!
He's quite curious and loves to be given new things to explore or chew on - wooden toy, cardboard, odd objects (that are safe!).
He loves to make a bed out of his sandbath - which is a bit bizarre, but I guess it makes him unique!
This is the imaginatively named Mr Bianco (means 'white'). In life, he loves eating and sleeping most of all. He is profoundly lazy but also profoundly lovely. He lays on his wheel dreaming sometimes, twitching his little feet and whiskers.
He's very friendly and doesn't mind being held - but he's fast so you have to be extra careful not to let him drop.
Despite being elderly, he still loves to groom himself and his coat is always clean and white - which is something amazing for a 2 year old white dwarf hamster. When he was younger he was a hit with the ladies (he is the father of the three sisters) and I suppose he likes to maintain himself in good shape :-))
my home got 6 hams already
This thread just made me so hungry.
I hope these cute hamster can find a new home soon!
Thanks for the well wishes. I'm really hoping someone will have pity for them and take them in. It is not a huge commitment because they already have all their things and will likely not live very long due to their age.
I am silly though and I never left my full contact details:
