Tomorrowland
It’s the future and style goes on an edgy yet fantastical tip. Although not for everybody, avant-garde pieces should have its place in any wardrobe. Just invest in one and unleash it to make a statement.
Shape
Puller
Like its name implies, it’s all about statement shapes for this one. Clothes with strong silhouettes, architectural shapes and origami folds are definitely a must. You can wear these new shapes loose and easy, or add a belt to acreate your own silhouette.
Animalistic
Animal prints like zebra, cheetah, ocelot, jaguar, cow, giraffe and tiger are given the once over—resulting in interesting patterns, textures and sizes. Undeniably, this is for the true fashionista and not for the faint of heart.
Easy
Rider
Perfect for the open road. Jackets, of the biker type, are a must for this look. So invest in a good jacket and you’re on the road to style-dom.
Folk
Heroes
Part peasant, part country and all chic. Folk-inspired style is still taking top spots on the style merry go round. It’s easy to achieve, comfy and accessible. Just the way we like it.
Dark
Fiction
Inspired by Blade Runner (or Twilight for the younger folk), this style is the epitome of timeless chic for its pared-down austerity and mysterious yet elegant effects. Lots of black for this one; and we mean lots of it.
Other Trends to Look Out For
Knitwear
A close country kin of tartans and plaids, innovative
knitwear should be next on your list of things to look out for. Chunky cable
knit sweaters in black, grey and in all manners of muted palettes, some with
quirky embellishments, are seen on many a high-street label.
Tartans
The tartan and plaid-packed pieces are seen on
many runways this season. But rather than going for the ubiquitous lumberjack
type, opt instead for pared down versions in greys, blues and browns. But if you
want to punk it up, there’s no stopping you from the usual red version.
Military
You’ve seen Coldplay decked out in it for their
videos and concerts. It’s the military-inspired jacket. It’s rock, luxe and
Sergeant Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band at the same time. Pair it with skinny
jeans, heels or boots, and you’re set to go.
Prom Skirts
Definitely just for the ladies; there’s been
a growing trend for flouncy prom skirts and also prom-styled dresses. The
puffier, the better. A short biker jacket under a fitted blouse is just perfect
for these voluminous skirts and you can probably find these in stores like
Warehouse or Miss Selfridge.
