any one has got experience with the UCHA Co-operative housing? The one near ucla.

im looking for alternative housing options right now to spare more living expenses. i already have an apartment for university housing and if i want to cancel it, i have to do it before contract starts.
check out westsideerentals.com or just drive around for a look. plenty of apartments around and much better priced than campus housing
ya i checkedout westside but most of the rooms are about the same price with the range of 1 - 1.2 k. any cheaper is probably shared. and i'm not even there yet cannot see. how about u check it out for me lol. u stay rather near ucla right? abt 40 mins away from santa monica?
well not really, i live in marina del rey which is about 10 miles from westwood lol. actually 1.2k for a single is really cheap on the westside, i'm paying 1.3 for a studio. well depends, traffic gets really bad during rush hr so u might wanna live somewhere close. i'd suggest century city/overland/national
hoho i found a shared studio apt in levering ave. walking distance abt 10-15 mins i guess. looks convenient.

I actually graduated from UCLA, lived in West LA. So I know the housing/transportation/convenience issues inside out. And yes now I work in and still live in West LA.
Which university housing are you confirmed for?
My advice: if you have a confirmation for that, take it. Living with other graduate students mean every one is on the same page, ie no loud music/party at 11pm on weekdays.
Also, pple have this perception that university housing is crappy. But they do take care of the maintainances like clockwork. Students as tenants are their top priority. Staying in non-UCLA housing means you have might have to deal with slimey landlords and/or managers. Been there and sometimes it can be pretty stressful. I sued one so I know.
Co-op is decent if you don't mind "working". For me, I can't stand living with undergraduates so that was out for me.
If you still have questions, post all the rentals you find here. I will provide info as much as possible.
