Winter blues... It's been unseasonably cold for SD lately. Frost covered cars in the AM, so bloody inconvenient.
It's raining hard outside right now. That's right... raining!
Then the precipitation is expected to turn to snow later tonight, with the temperature dipping below freezing, where it'll stay through the next few days.
I think it's an understatement to say that tomorrow morning's commute is going to be... interesting. I'm predicting at least a thousand spinouts on the roads in the metro area by midday tomorrow.
Ah, the joys of living and working in Minnesota...

Trade places with you?

I'd trade but not with you. Waddya think? I gotta deathwish??? Still *cannot* understand how you tolerate unbearable MN winters.
A rolling stone gathers no moss as they say and boy am I feeling it.

Speaking of rain, we've had lots lately. So unusual.

Whatever happened to your plans to float north back to Washington?
Not going to happen. We've thought it through and decided that financially, it's better to be here than up there. There's also the weather issue too. As you know I'm not a cold weather person. The hubster can no longer tolerate colder climates after so many years of being in warmer climes. As usual, the proverbial rollling stone gathers no moss and we are always thinking of moving. Being in one place longer than 3 years feels strange.
i heard washington area is getting it bad this year. my friend in seattle was complaining of temperatures colder than alaska and there's been snow too.
surprisingly....east coast is quite nice and toasty still. weird huh? i'm actually hoping for the snow to come soon.....
instead of flying to florida...we might actually start driving down south slowly on our own (maybe leave the week before xmas). hopefully, the weather will treat us kindly.
I'm feeling homesick.
MG, I hear a big winter storm is heading your way, if it hasn't pounded you guys yet. Hope you guys come out of it okay. Stay safe.

Homesick? For Seattle or Singapore?
6" to 8" is what they're predicting for snowfall with this storm, which is expected to hit us late this afternoon and last until tomorrow morning. Nothing we can't handle--most Minnesotans don't bat an eyelid unless it's 12" or more.
its pretty mild here in the east coast, compared to last year. last year we had 3 snow storms...
So I shovel snow almost every day for 10 days then it warms up to a couple degrees above freezing making the snow weigh twice as much and I hurt my back! That was a couple days ago, the back feels much better now. Just a lil ice left in the driveway to scrape/chip away now.

Back pain at your age?? You're getting old, dude!
Have you tried sprinkling some salt onto the driveway to help the snow melt faster?

Singapore I guess. I'm just tired of being in SD.

You need to move to the boonies, Jamul or Pauma Valley, somewhere like that.

We have ice/snow melt stuff but only use it on the stepping stones between the back door of the house and the shop.

It might be worth mentioning that Singapore now is vastly different from the Singapore you knew growing up.
But you probably already know that.

I hope to visit Sg sometime next year or so. I hope I won't be too shaken by what I see.
Re: Seattle. Now there is even less incentive to move there. We got word that our Grandmother didn't wake up yesterday morning. She was the glue that held us together. Now that she's gone...

My deepest condolences on the loss of your grandmother, jetta. How old was she?
If you have not been back to Singapore lately, be prepared for a huge dose of "shock and awe." I'll wager the changes in demographics will probably be more of a surprise to you than the changes to the physical landscape.
It looks like things are going to get messy this weekend in the Twin Cities with the anticipated arrival tonight of a huge snowstorm that is expected to dump 24" of snow and bring with it howling winds and sub-zero (in ºF) temperatures. The winds are forecast to reach over 40 mph by late tomorrow, creating snowdrifts up to 5' and whiteout conditions, and dropping the windchill down to -25ºF (-32ºC) and below.
It should be an interesting weekend. The Department of Transportation is strongly recommending no unnecessary travel during the snowstorm. I think I have enough food in the house to hold out for at least three days.

2004. :P
MG, I know I'll be shocked. My last visit, I saw lots of strange looking faces and ohmigosh, so crowded. I hope to visit next summer and see how I feel about the place. Watch this space. :P
Re: Grandma. She was 90. Memorial service in the spring. Thank you guys for your condolences.
Re: weekend weather. Heard about your impending dumping of snow. Brace yourself. Wait till I tell you about our serving. They're telling us to expect 80 degree weather!
