Its called re-spin my life cycle.
Met a couple lately they spend 8 yrs working in London came back to SG.....for a year and half now they are preparing to return to London.....the kids hate it here, unable to deal with the locals ............
At work....say "good bye" and "see you tomorrow" In return the local colleague asked where are you going tomorrow!!!!.... : )
fortunately my work environment is relatively global.
i soldiered on in singapore.............reminds me of german soldiers in stalingrad.

Seems to me that you dont like cohabiting with foreigners. Here in Australia, i'm the only asian in my workplace and the few asians i do meet are either from China or India. Go overseas to work for a few months and when you return home, you won't complain as much.
hi arapahoe,
good to know that you are settling in back home in SG. as with any relocations...i guess it'd take awhile to adjust but i'm sure you'll be able to do with much ease.
i've friends (non singaporeans) from overseas who are moving back to SG too (previously worked in SG and then left to go europe/USA). seems that asia is the place to be now - particularly singapore. even the ivy league universities are eyeing singapore now and several have already made plans to set up campuses in SG through joint collaborations
who knows....with the state of the US economy...we might be back home eventually too. but well, we'll just take it a step at a time now....and see where the path might lead us. whatever it is...i'm thankful for the opportunities that are available overseas and in SG
keep us posted on the happenings in SG and wish you all the best.
Isnt it good that pple (sporean) are flocking back to spore again?
Afterall their roots are still here. No place to go, come back to spore. Spore still open up arms for you to come back.

.............................most asians after wrking in aussie werkplace prefer to resign and setup their own business...ang mo companies didnt pay asians enough to get tortured at werk.

The biomedical industries in Singapore is driving the main growth. But hiring in this sector has stalled. The technology sector remain sluggish. Financial sector hiring expanded in middle of the year but year end hiring has slow down.......
I do not think that the 3rd economics wheel of casino and tourism is enough to safe SG out from any technical recession.
Plus the current inflow of Cash from overseas reminded me of the US in 2007 pre-subprime crisi lots of cash chasing loan. lots of cheap low interest rate.....as they said money Easy come Easy go....!
Singapore can still flipped into a recession overnight.....the city state is still a high risk island. Lots of folks out there still looking for jobs. So.....don't get fool by the news.
And still lots of people coming in to look for jobs........

i think whatever it is....SGP is prob still in a much better state than here. over here, unemployment is still high, foreclosures still aplenty, property prices/demand have yet to pick up, govt debt is rising, USD is weak (damn it's 1.29 now! i converted quite abit @ 1.42/1.36/1.34...bleaaaahhh) etc.
Arapahoe,
Though we haven't really crossed path here in LA, I am happy for you. It's all about adaptability and survivability. I reckon this has been reflected in your first post.
I am still employed in the US and not looking back. And I have a side business related to motorsport which I would have never been involved in had I not left SG. A*Star has repeatedly offered me a job in SG starting way back during my phd years. There was this usual persuasion of 'your friends are in SG, your family, the food, why not come home?'.
Still, nothing measures up to the lifestyle here.
In any case, I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Well......it took me a while to accept the notion that i am returning to Singapore. I see myself more as a Asia Pac Rim kinda of a guy.
In career I am part of a group that managed the entire Asia range from NZ, AU to S.Korea to India. I don't think the current state of economies call for statics career, when the wind blow West ward i will be on the road again........it is what it is...................Wayfaring Career.
..........................i once saw a soldier estonian in ww2....he decided to go fight for the german army n left his original army.then later on when things din turn out good he decided to go back to his estonian army roots.
.....................................................why all the trouble for?????!!!!
go setup yer own company.......stay at one place..thrive n prosper....get less headache too....as long as the enviroment is conducive thats all that matters.
i was in spore for so many decades...i had that idea the materials just 5 mins walk away from me but something was wrong.........not all the essential materials was easy to get in spore and they normally dealt with big time companies instead so............spore isnt the right place.........
