Yup, it was that time of the year again. Just returned last night from our annual pilgrimage to Montana to hunt prairie dogs. Some pictures from the trip, with captions where applicable:
Somewhere on Interstate 94 in North Dakota, on our way west to Terry, MT. We stayed in Glendive but hunted in Terry, about 30 miles farther west. A massive storm system was moving through the northern plains as we left the Twin Cities, and we drove through moderate to heavy rain for the first nine hours of the 10-hour trip.
On the prairie just outside of Terry, MT, where we hunted. You can see the remnants of the storm system that we drove through to get there. That's Bob in the picture.
Dave taking aim at a p-dog with his stupidly accurate Ruger M77 bolt action rifle chambered in .204 Ruger. He was easily taking down p-dogs at ranges of up to 350 yard while Bob and I were struggling to hit anything beyond 200 yards.
Did I get that little bastard?
Bob shooting with his AR rifle.
Making our way to another p-dog colony. According to the topo maps, we walked an average of between 8 and 10 miles a day during the three full days we were there.
One of the tools of the trade--in this case, my AR rifle with a 24" barrel.
A view of the starkly beautiful prairie of Montana.
Now we get to the best part: the kills!
Due to the somewhat graphic nature of the images, I've provided links instead of thumbnails. Fair warning: DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINKS IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH OR DO NOT LIKE TO SEE IMAGES OF DEAD PRAIRIE DOGS WITH THEIR INNARDS TURNED INSIDE OUT. Card-carrying PETA members can look elsewhere. You have been warned.
That's disgusting..mmmmmmm
why so cruel? hunting dogs?
i prefer hunting pandas
as they say,
to kill grass, must remove roots
do you pour gasoline into the holes and set them alight after shooting the dogs?
oh man
i was having my breakfast of sauteed pig intestine when i click your first picture.
i vomit into my mouth but as i am in a public restaurant, i have to swallow my vomitted pig intestine back down
it was horrible
hunting pandas are better, at least they have the mass and fur to hide the wounds
wont the guys find their fellow humans a better target each time they go hunting for the fun of it all?
and what did those cute animals do to u>????rather shoot a cardboard target....and why are u shooting live animals???thought playstation games are ok fer dat????very interesting what people need......for fun.

Nope, we don't have to do anything after shooting the p-dogs. Hawks, coyotes and other predators on the prairie will take care of the carcasses in short order.

umm...
i was actually asking if you pour gasoline down the holes and burn the baby dogs alive but i guess making baby dogs starve is better than burning them

That would be counter-productive. We want the baby p-dogs to grow into healthy adults so we can hunt them the next season.

i am trying to be funny on the other posts but not about my breakfast
chinese do eat sauteed pig intestines for breakfast
it is a common fare when we go for hong kong style dim sum breakfast.
i know, it sounds disgusting eating the large intestines of pigs but it taste divine if prepared properly
