Sian. All these people coming out of the woodwork because of the cash for appliances rebate. Soooo many people have super old refrigerators and washers, it's unbelievable.

I'll bet you some of those "antique" appliances, though ugly and inefficient, are built like tanks and will probably outlast the ones being produced nowadays.

u know..that's true. my parent's refrigerator, tv, washing machine, cooking stove all lasted for 20+years....whereas the new ones can tahan 5 years the most. i bought one hitachi TV when i was in singapore...and it died even before it turned one yr old...and 'cos it was still under warranty...i had it repaired like 3 times and it still didn't work....the repair guy was getting impatient with me after having to turn up at my place for 3 times and suggested that i should get a flat screen HDTV instead of the "antique" piece (he probably thought i was a bloody cheapskate). so pissed.....

They're tempted by the $100 you can get back from getting a new Energy Star washer. You get $200 back from refrigerator. I answer the same questions day in and out, I wish I could put it all on tape and play my answers back.

I had a Sony tv, bought while living in Japan. The repairman also came out several times to service the damn thing and still couldn't troubleshoot the problem. The guy was a Japanese national and was sooo apologetic about the defective TV, he couldn't stop apologizing.

that's one of the reasons why i really like japan. sincere or not...the japanese are usually very polite and service almost always topnotch. in singapore....i felt as if it was my fault that the TV kept breaking down...'cos i was too cheapskate and bought a CRT instead of the latest most fancy flatscreen TV. bloody hell...
HOLY FICKING SHITE, THERES A DIN TAI FUNG IN SOCAL!!!!! GONNA MAKE THE DRIVE THIS WEEKEND!

Confucius was an alcoholic wife-beating redneck farm boy who was always babbling incoherently.
