The snow's falling pretty steadily outside now, and it's expected to intensify by this evening. The commute home is going to be messy...
The only damage, if you can call it this was a leak in the solar tube we had installed last spring. I was surprised but I'm not happy that the installer will be by tomorrow to take a peek. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow but it's dry today so it would be best if he popped in today.
Re: Window film. I did that too! Why didn't I think of suggesting that? But boy, what a pain it was to align the damn thing on the window. After all that pain, I have to say it was worth it. Especially during the summer. The before and after was so obvious.
San Diegans don't know how to drive in the wet stuff. Yesterday there were 450+ accidents compared to the usual 50-75.

thanks folks...will check out the window film thingee...think i saw it at ocean state job lot. looks quite hard to put together. you mean it works for summer months too?
problem with us is that we usually leave some windows opened slightly to let air circulate...so that must have cost us too! if i close all the windows....i'll always feel faint

That totally costs you bookoo bucks! That brings your internal temp down and your poor air handler is constantly cranking it up trying to meet the required setting on your thermostat.

Air handler? What's an air handler? Sounds sissy!
Over here, when it's -20ºF outside with the wind howling and the bitter cold seeping into the house through every tiny crack and orifice on the outside wall, we rely on a good, old fashioned, gas fired, flame throwing furnace to keep things inside nice and toasty.
"Air handler"--pffft!
been snowing since 6+am this morning.....
it's all white outside....nice!
while it was like icing dust on muffins the other day....today it's more like cake frosting...wonder when's it gonna be thick fondant???

ya.....hubby refuses to close the windows...says he needs the air circulation..and that he'd rather pay higher gas bills....geez
update: just checked my latest utility bill....$334! WTF! maybe that might change my hub's mind.....he may as well throw stacks of money into the fireplace for burning...

I think you've sprung a leak in the head too.
I just realised that the the system that drenched us here is the same system wrecking havoc where you're at. I'm wondering, with the blizzard conditions, your boss hasn't declared a snow day?

Most of the snow has fallen (though we're expecting about an additional inch today), but the big problem now is the wind that's gusting up to 50 mph, creating blizzard conditions and windchills down to -45°F.
Though inconvenient, these conditions hardly necessitate the declaration of a snow day. It's not as if we've never experienced this in previous winters.
Are you guys drying out from the storm?

I still cannot fathom why one would put up with living in such bleak winter conditions. I'm not brave enough. Hats off to you. San Diego winters are plenty cold enough for this poor soul.
As for us, we are drying out. However, with our aging water pipes we have a hugh gusher in the city. Hugh! We are expecting another weather system sometime Friday or so. I have a slight problem though. The solartube that we had installed has now sprung a leak. I have a flat roof and I hope that water hasn't pooled too badly up there. The original installer's coming first thing in the AM and I'm hoping for the best.
