Did the storm shut down public transportation in your town?
It looks like you've uncovered the "secret" of staying warm outside in cold weather: physical activity. You should try shovelling wet, heavy snow--after about 15 minutes, you'll work up enough of a sweat to not be bothered by the cold too much.

They haven't shut down public transport, but its not worth taking the bus as they get stuck in the show and have to wait for another vehicle to 'push' it.
As for the subway, I would rather not take it especially since most people aren't out. The last time I took the subway at night towards West Philadelphia, I saw people openly dealing drugs. It also doesn't help that gun law is very lax here.
At City Hall... It was snowing pretty hard..
the blizzard storm arrived later than expected last night..around 10pm...but when it came, everything just turned to white in a matter of minutes. the heavy snowing will prob only stop around noon later today. we've been snowed in...i'm unable to push my door open 'cos there's just too much snow! will have to try to get out of the house via another exit...it's crazy...there's so much snow and it's still falling like nobody's business....it's a total whiteout with the strong wind gusts! the mailboxes are almost covered in the snow! kekekeke.
this is my back porch taken from my 2nd flr bedroom window...
this is the amount of snow on my roof....the windows almost 3/4 covered...i'm getting a little claustrophobic...
this is the snow that has accumulated at my door...making it impossible for me to open the door to get out
my "muffins" are going to be all buried under the snow soon....
so we managed to get out of the house from another exit...
this is the f**king long driveway that i'd be shovelling to death if i hadn't engaged the professionals....can u see the far end where my spouse is standing between the 2 cars?
that's the stuck door....buried in snow...
we finally managed to shovel our way out....
time to celebrate with cake cutting....
it's still snowing non-stop...earlier, it was already this deep...
Thanks for the pics. Wow, you really are snowed under, poor thing. Now you know why I don't like snow. Nice to look at but hell to deal with. I hope that when it starts to melt, there won't be any problems.
Take care k?
Wow. That's.. a lot of snow, even by Minnesota standards.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.
just went for a walk in the snow earlier...the town is so quiet and serene looking with everything covered in knee-deep snow.
snowmen tomorrow......
Anyone knows how to get rid of the salt stains left on leather boots?
My poor boots.

My poor boots.
Try wiping the salt stains off with a sponge dipped in a warm solution of diluted laundry detergent. I don't know if it'll work on leather, but that's how I've always removed salt stains from my sneakers.
Well, at least you guys don't have to dream of a white christmas.
Now we know where the ice from those melted glaciers went.
There's a huge snowstorm bearing down on the midwest that's predicted to dump over a foot of snow over the next two days. And I'm scheduled to fly to Vegas on the evening of 12/24. I'll be lucky if the flight isn't delayed/cancelled. Crap.

I had completely forgotten about your Vegas trip. Oh oh, I hope you get to get out of Dodge safely.

holy crap, u folks got hit bad eh? buddle up and take care. go easy with the shovel. need a snow blower eh? u hv such long driveway!!!
Well, I'm not taking any chances. If the forecast still holds true, the worst of the storm will hit us on Thursday afternoon, right when my to flight to Vegas is scheduled to leave. The airlines are aware of the mess the storm will likely create for Christmas travellers, and have waived rebooking charges for people who want to change their travel dates. I took advantage of this "offer" and rescheduled my departure for Saturday morning. Hopefully, the worst of the storm will be behind us by then.

heh heh....ya, cape cod and the vicinity were the hardest hit areas. think we got more snow than predicted....
the soft fluffy white snow has turned into a dirty slushy mess....eeeks! luckily i managed to take some photos when the snow is still clean and white....
some icy parts are hazardous for walking/driving. i've been walking around with my ski poles for support...thank god for them!
there's a lot to shovel indeed....we spent half a day on monday shovelling (had to stop when my shovel was cracked at the handle!!)...and that's after my snow-plough guy had cleared a large part of the snow from the driveway.
yeah...a snow blower is what we are thinking of getting if the new england winter is gonna be like that most of the time....geez
Merry X'mas everyone!!!!

Poor thing. I really really hate being cold. Yah, wth are you doing in the offit?
Our weather here is nothing compared to what you have to endure, so I won't comment.
ya...it's horribly cold today. temperature is like 15F...but with the winds, it felt like sub-zero. was refilling gas for just a couple of mins and my hands were already frozen stiff and hurt like crazy. and am glad we don't have an asian make car...would've felt light enough to be blown away.
