Ha ha..."Y'all" aint' Noo-Yoork, it's Texan...
Just speak straight English without the lahs and hors and stuff, and speak slowly...everyone will be able to understand you.
An accent is something to be proud of, even a SG accent. If the ppl you hang out with think otherwise, they're a bunch of close-minded douchebags.
Diversity rules!
I agree with boomslang on the lahs the hors and learning to speak slowly as for accents I can only say that everybody has one so dont sweat it.

i once interviewed a young Japanese Sing. He came in with a serious intension expression look on his face and he was polite gave me a half bound. During the interview i wanted it to be less formal and more relax so i crack a singapore jokes. His expression was "Heng arh!!!" The Japanese exchange out the door and I was talking to a Singaporean.

Singlish is a good ice-breaker >LOL.4 years ago I attended an International Convention and the Singaporeans were so easy to spot because they tried to sound like American but at the same time British and that don't make them Canadian either>LOL.I was very careful not to reveal myself at first and was mistaken as a Hawaian until of course I started speaking Singlish and everyone in the room broke into laughter.
I dun see why u need to drop ur singapore accent? Is it very embarassing to have a Singaporean accent? Hong Kongers in OZ and NZ still speak in their HK accented English. Thais who lived there for years still speak in their Thai accent. And still, I dun see Kiwis and OZs excluding them.
u didn't notice hongkie's and viet's always congregate in their little asian bubbles and nobody really likes them?
Viets i am not so sure. But the HKers I saw integrate very well. Of course they have their cliques but the key point is that I did not see how accents have made them being excluded by OZs and Kiwis. TS made it sound like most of the OZs are elitists who speak only with people who speak with an OZ/ANGMOH accent. I detest that, it is an unfiar reflection of OZs and also a reflection of how stupidly desperate and naive of TS.
I guess it is going to be quite hard for u.

maybe TS has self-inferiority complex or insecurity issues?

Ok fair, then i think he gotta seek help. If not, after this, he would wear what he thinks are ang moh clothes to gain acceptance. Then after that, he will bleach him skin white to gain acceptance.
I dropped my Singaporean Accent and picked up the South London accent by accident.
i hated it when i came to USA, people didnt understand me. But when I finally talked to a singaporean 4 years later. I found that I loved it. Its like an identity.
is you a pikey?

you would have a hard time adjusting back...
Do you mean going back to singlish or speaking like an American? I have seen Australians who have lived in US almost all the lives but speaking like they never left their homeland the moment they meet their fellow kaki-lang.
croikey wot ah pooftah!
never had one to begin with... so cannot say...

Most singaporeans here i know dont speak singlish to locals, let alone the singaporean accent. We singaporeans are very used to code switching. I for one, speak hokkien to my grandman, chinese to PRC (which are alot here in melbourne), singlish to Singaporeans and ordinary english to locals, with the singaporean accent slight phased out. I even code switch between different levels of singlish depending on the person i talk to.
i was mistaken for
mainlander by taiwanese
hkers by mainlanders
taiwanese by taiwanese taxi drivers
malaysian by one taiwanese
having ang moh accent by singaporeans
i think i better stop talking
