Whilst in Osaka, we took the opportunity to visit the Transportation Museum. The indoor portion of the museum was situated, appropriately enough, right underneath the elevated tracks of the main JR railway, and the building constantly reverberated with the sound of trains roaring past overhead.
The Hotel Osaka Bay Tower, which was located across the street from the museum.
I did not take any good pictures inside the museum as it was too dark, but I did manage to snap these images at the outdoor pavillion:

Thanks! All the images here, including the night shots, were taken with my faithful Canon PowerShot S3 IS digicam. The camera's a little old and only sports a 6 megapixel CCD, but it takes really good pictures. Canon got it right with this one.
The night shots were taken with the camera in its manual settings mode. I've taken enough of them to know roughly what shutter speeds and aperture settings are needed to produce a reasonably sharp night shot, and it's usually easy enough to find some kind of "anchor" like a light post or railing to steady the camera for the longer exposure.
If I do replace the S3 IS, it will likely be with a PowerShot SX10.
Later that day, we trotted over to the Osaka Castle:
Looks like the Real McCoy, doesn't it? Problem is, it's a bloody reconstruction. Construction of the original castle was started in 1583 and it was destroyed and rebuilt several times through history. The one you see here was built in 1931, survived the air raids of WW2, and extensively renovated in 1997. The inside is basically a museum with gift shops and refreshment stands. Very authentic... NOT!
The view from the observation deck of the "castle":
A mime performer on the castle grounds. Depending on how much money you put into the tins, he would perform a different "wind-up"-style drum routine.

Go to www.hyperdia.com to find out how long it takes and how much it costs to travel between any two destinations in Japan.
For us, the cost was the price of a two-week JR Railpass (¥45100 back in May) for unlimited travel on any JR train (except the "Nozomi" Shinkansen) during the validity period.

The following images were taken at Peace Park:
