don't mention.
yeah..not easy to get cheap/good accommodations in kyoto..esp during the peak travel seasons. the last time i stayed in some budget hotel about 5min walk from the jr station too....called Hotel Station Kyoto or something like that. very basic...and not exactly cheap too.
given the nature of swine flu....Do you have Plan B?

No Plan B in the works--it's all or nothing, do or die!
Just for grins and giggles, I was checking ticket prices for flights between MSP and NRT. Just last week, a round trip ticket in coach on Delta/NWA was around US$1200; today, it's a little under US$700. I'd like to think the swine flu scare had a part to play in this.
I'd be pulling my hair out if I had purchased the ticket at the higher price, but my ticket was obtained using my frequent flyer miles.
We added a day to our stay in Tokyo (i.e., from three nights to four), and took a day off our Hiroshima stay.

Man.....dude....sound like a vacation in Vegas.....All in One hand ....
You sure?..... a curise down to Cancun might be better off...you get to enjoy the holidays and get the swine souvenir at the same time. Isn't it better to pay for quarantine at the hotel.......: )
Good luck !!!
hi all,
is there any visa or other requirements for spore passport holders?i read from straits times decades ago that japanese airport customs dun let people into japan easily...isat true?
how much is a spiny crab or lobster over there?and where do u go in japan to find ww2 stuff replica n original?and what kinda gizmos do they have there???
It looks like everything is set for the trip. The JR Rail Passes have been purchased and the hotels booked. I've updated the trip itinerary on the previous page.
The countdown commences; I don't think I'll be very productive at the office for the next month...
I'm excited for you! While you're there, try out the American fast food chains? They carry different fare than their American namesakes. Like McDonald's has the Chicken Tatsuta burger.
Woohoo! A bit of good news: my original flight to Japan was booked as MSP-SLC-NRT, with a frikkin' three-hour layover at SLC (you don't really have a choice of routing when you obtain a ticket using your FF miles), but I managed to sweet-talk a Delta reservation agent last night into rebooking me onto the direct flight from MSP to NRT without any penalty. The return flight was also changed to the direct routing.

Remember to bring a hat. On really hot days, the Japanese sun is unforgiving and almost everyone wears hats.

There's probably enough to see and do in Japan to warrant a return visit. This may be a bit premature, but I'm already thinking of touring the part of Japan north of Tokyo (i.e., towards Hokkaido) on my next visit.
I'll start a new thread and load it up pictures of the trip, once I'm over there.

Thanks for the suggestion, jetta. I'll remember to bring my favourite pink straw hat with the sunflower motif with me on the trip!
This looks like you already got your travel insurances.
Putting your stuff aside for when you are not in the house......
How about a matching pink straw bag to match that hat? And those lovely skimpy bikinis?
And do remember to go for a bikini and underarm wax before you fly.....

I'll be sure to wear a bikini under my normal summer clothes at all times.

Chinese soap opera, ah? It had better be subtitled, since I won't understand the dialogue.
There's a good chance I'll be visiting one of my sisters in SoCal later this year, so a get-together with you and the gang over there might not be out of the question.
15 more days and counting. Still can't believe this is going to happen...
You are overhyped.
Just keep to a decent sleep schedule and sleep as much as you can on the flight.
Take the airborne tablets in orange juice before you board the plane another set when you woke during the flight.
Flying East induce jetlag more then flying west.
Have some vicks handy, it keeps your nose from feeling too dry or cold during the flight and the hotel aircon.

Unfortunately, in all the years that I've flown, I've never managed to sleep on a flight. Believe me, short of using OTC sleep-inducing drugs, I've tried, but the uncomfortable seats and noisy environment have thus far proven insurmountable. That's the reason I've never looked forward to the 21-hour flights to Singapore--I usually look like a zombie when I arrive there on account of the lack of sleep. The flight to Narita is 12 hours, so hopefully I won't quite resemble The Walking Dead when I get there.
Thanks for the Vicks suggestion, but you're forgetting that cold, dry weather is the norm for Minnesota for about 7 months out of the year, so It's not a big deal for me.
