We Singaporeans like to think of ourselves as serious foodies, especially when it comes to local Singapore cuisine.
However, I've lately been thinking that if I were ever to move from the US, where I've been staying for awhile, I'd have serious cravings for food I've been having here too. I guess it'll be a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't".
My list of top dishes I would crave if I ever left the US would be:
1. Cajun food - Gumbo, etouffe, andouille, beignettes
2. Mexican - Enchiladas, flautas, carne asada, puffy tacos, tres leches!
3. Misc. - Lobster rolls from New England, crabcakes from Maryland, Brisket-links-ribs from Texas, and most importantly, American desserts in general!
Does anyone else have dishes that they're already accustomed to overseas?
- my own lambchop made with cheap forequarter and special spice
- gan pua nice vietnamese pho at central market
- AUD6.35 angove's butterfly ridge riesling with AUD4.95 domino pizza with lots of olives
Krispy Kreme & Kona Flavoured Coffee.
In/Out Burger: their protein burger was fantastic
Fresh Tortilla chips, wraps & avacado laden fillings
Really soft stewed Brisket I had at Texas
Meat Loaf with sauce at Rubys
Deep fried mushroom at a hole in the wall restaurant at Trabuco Canyon
Those two bites carrot cupcakes with cream cheese toppings at Albertsons....
Oh yeah, I forgot about In 'n Out, but my favorite's the carnivore double-double though, and their strawberry shakes!
Poutine
Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich
Fiddleheads
BeaverTails in Ottawa
Funnel Cake
& Oreilles de Crisse
The whole set up of the typical English tea in the afternoon - having tea in the lawn overlooking the river.
one more to add.. but it's not in Canada though. did a road trip to Detroit for White Castle ! it was well worth the drive..
Hawaii: Malassadas, poke, Andy's shrimp truck fare and Teddy's Bigger Burgers.
Washington: Puyullap Fair scones, Walla walla sweet onions, Burger Master, deep fried 'shrooms
California: In n Out burgers; Rubio's Fish Tacos; Pat and Oscar's ribs and breadsticks, Sonic, carne asada...
More to come....
Mine fav Brit meal: the English breakfast with the whole works. But the calorie content is killer.
I just saw, opposite the Grassland stop, at KL.
There is opening a Krispy Kreme!!!
argh!!! Why only there! Why not in Singapore!!!!

odd ain't it? they also have it in indon, HK, korea etc
Not sure if this will burst your bubble, but Krispy Kreme is doing pretty badly here in the US with all the stuff about going healthy...
Hope someone in SG can franchise it before they file Chapter 11.
I can eat a dozen originals at one go if the "HOT NOW" sign in the window is lighted!

I'll confess that I never really bought into this whole Krisp Kreme phenomenon. Tried their overpriced donuts a few times and found them waaaay too rich.
All of the KK stores here in MN have closed. The last one went out of business just last year, in fact.
Really, all KK went out of business in MN?
Man, I would have thought that hot doughnuts + cold weather = perfect break from the diet.
I know KK is out of Houston too, which is officially the fattest city in the US. Even the obese are turning away.
well, there are only 4 KK's in the whole of Canada.. Only one in Ontario, in Mississauga.. Timmies for me anytime.. KK is way to ex.
I'm surprise to hear that KK is expensive in other parts of the world.
I get then here in Austin, TX, for US$6.50 per dozen. Sometimes, if you get some girl scout coupon or something, you get 2 dozen for the same price.
But I just found out the the original glazed doughnuts were 200 calories per pop, with 100 calories from fat! Ouch!

KK was instrumental in contributing to this country's ever-expanding waistline...
KK is waaaaay too sweet, imho. The one in the next town closed a couple of years ago. I'll put my money on Yum Yum Donuts anytime.
Psst, MG, when in Japan, you must must must try Mr Donut. Their Angel Creme donut is to die for!
In spite of my short trips in the respective countries, I miss the fish and chips I had in Perth and reindeer in Finland.
pat kaprow moo - 25THB
i f*ckin miss that alot
Definitely in N out. Also I have a thing for roadside diners. One of those you would see in movies where truckers hang tight. That couldn't be more American. The dry-rubbed BBQ ribs, briskets, steaks, more steaks, pancakes, steak fries, country fried steaks and those hearty morning American breakfast.
The Friday all-u-can-eat fish fry. I'll probably miss that the most.
During WWII krisp kreme donuts was served in the front line to help boots morale of US soldiers. It is a little too sweet for our taste bud but the texture is still unbeatable.
yeah will miss alot of food in california. but formost I will missed Cheap Wine........
on a side note had to make an unplanned trip back to SG. Saw the news paper that 6 Yanks had to pay over SGD$500 bucks eat at netwon food center. Eating in SG is getting expensive.
Hah, yeah, saw that article about some US tourist who were ripped off by "stall #43". I really have no idea why these Newton hawkers, who already make so much money, would want to go for the quick buck. It's happened a couple of times in the past too.
I'm looking forward to my short trip back in Summer to SG too, but I'm going to be weary about eating at hawker centers, what with the people who just died of food poisoning!

Perhaps the hawkers were just taking a cue from the money-making propensities of their dear leaders in the government.
