These candied fruits are some of the forgotten titbits. they have such lovely names like 东�西就(winter melon)，佳�天� (lotus root)

These 年糕 are made from glutinous rice. There's a story to this cake. There was once an adviser from china who forsaw a war being eminent. Therefore he advised his people to make these cake and dried it under the sun.
Then the war really came and the people were hungry. They remembered the dried up cake and it saved them from starvation. There's another story about how the people offered this to the kitchen god so that he would not be able to speak bad about them infront of the jade emperor.
Anyway, these is best eaten with coconut or fried with eggs

Something that is in every home during Lunar New Year......love-letters!!!! I prefer those handmade type made by my grandmother but she's too old to have the energy to make them nowsaday. You can even taste the charcoal smell in her love-letters
