Winter 2008/09

We've had the first snow accumulation of the season here. There's about an inch of fresh-fallen snow on the ground now, but it should melt when we get above freezing later today.

90F degree weather for tomorrow, Friday. I've organised my city's first annual holiday bazaar. Cross your fingers that it'll be a success. And by success I mean people putting money into my vendors' pockets. :P

Aiyoh, had I known that my so-called partner would be a dead weight, I would never have asked her to co-organise this event with me. She and I have been exchanging missives via email. So weird to argue via email.
I'm the one who canvassed and solicited 99% of the vendors, put up ads around town, in the media, etc. Grrrr
As for cha-ching, I've put out too much of my own money so far. I hope to at least break even since this is the first one. I have another one Dec 5th. I'll take pics for sure. Fingers crossed that it'll be successful hor.

The bazaar today was a small success. The hardest part of diverting foot traffic to our indoor location. My vendors, for the most part, were happy. Only one didn't sell enough to cover the cost of her rental. I have another one on the 5th in the same location.
The best thing that happened today was, our very first customer ended up being my sign twirler.
He stood out in 90F weather from 1 to 7pm and we gave him his purchase for free, plus fed him cookies which I baked, and pizza. He was a happy camper. He even asked me to take him on again for the 5th and he'll go around the neighbourhood posting my flyers. What a deal. -

wow smell of smoke today....from the fire....on saturday i was on my way to the bank i saw this smoke behind the canyon and that was close?
Than i listen to the radio i heard it was Corona fire. But what i saw was the smoke from the Brea fire.
fortunately i move out from Brea 1 yr ago.....

While walking from the bus stop to the office this morning, I was at the traffic junction waiting for the pedestrian crossing signal to turn green. A bit of snow had fallen last night and I noticed that the road surface at the junction was shinier than usual, indicating a thin layer of ice had formed.
One of the roads leading to the junction has a slight downhill grade, and just as the pedestrian signal turned green, a car that was coming down that road attempted to stop but locked up it wheels and slid on the ice into the junction. It did a very graceful 360° spin while sliding through the junction in slow motion. Amazingly, the car didn't hit anything and continued on its way without stopping after straightening itself, all in one fluid move.
It was pure poetry in motion--the people waiting to cross the road even applauded and cheered after the car completed its manoeuver.
Yup, winter's here!

That picture was taken not long after I got into the office, so it had to be around 7:15 a.m.
The electronic priceboard at the gas station cycles through the prices of unleaded, mid and super grades, so it was probably displaying the price of the super grade when the image was captured.

we're supposed to get about 5-10cm of snow this weekend =Dand then it's going to warm up and rain next week >.<
and...i've heard some pple say that this winter is not going to be mild....but oh well...who knows =P
