Hey Jon! Welcome to SO! How did you find us? *curious*
Heading back to do NS huh? Wow, that's a big step after having lived away from SG all this time. I wonder what will happen to your US passport since Sg doesn't allow dual citizenships?
Anyway, when are you heading back?
I googled somethin and this showed up, pretty cool haha. Yea kinda nervous not really lookin forward to it but just gotta get it over with. Yea I think 21 I have to choose which one to give up but hopefully the gov doesnt find out and ill get to keep both.

Most of my family is in singapore and I love it. It was where I was born and it's my home and its where I want to live my life and raise a family. Yea my grandparents were just tellin me about that the other day, about how to always obey the officers and not to stand out. Human rights are bull crap, its not human rights because only people from certain countries have these rights.

of course they aren't bullcrap but sayin you can't treat me like this because I have human rights? its not supposed to be used as a reason to be treated better and to avoid hardships

apparently your understanding of human rights is a bit distorted if you think it guarantees a comfortable life void of any hardship, you should go look the word up before you try to debate
Hi Jon, Welcome back to Singapore.
I hope you are comming back and staying with family. Preferably one with a decent washing machine. You might want to consider sponsoring that family with a dryer for days when you need your laundry back in a hurry. (Heck I have a brother and he did his NS.)
1st few months will be tough but I am sure you can adapt quickly. Have fun!

yea we have a house there and last time I checked it had a washing machine AND a dryer so no trouble on that.
I've actually thought about giving up my citizenship many times and just attend university here and maybe apply for a PR but............ a lot of it is my family plannin out my future

tell ur parents wat u tink lo... its not like u cannot come back sg as visitor or PR... dun waste the chance of becoming US/canadian citizen...
I'm already a us citizen and everyone in my family also holds dual citizensihp and we've basically all decided to stay in singapore after college
thats putting a lot of responsibilities on you.
People are leaving sg for universities & such, your family is expecting you to go back sg to do your universities? (doiing that entails having to to do NS.)
Its up to you seriously. And your parents shouldnt have that sort of expectation.
USA & Singapore arent that much different in terms of expenses. You might want to check thru your local collages to find out which is more cheaper.
USA, you get your driving licence faster and schools easier.
I've known folks that completed their NS and then give up their sg citizenship, because they felt they are better off elsewhere.
welcome.
when is your enlisted date?
you will meet all kinda of people with all kind of dialect spoken in NS. there is a SAF site and Q & A so u can go thru the forum and get info......there are quiet a few foreign born singaporean going back to serve NS.
I spend 2 yrs in NS. 6 high key in ICT....been to Taiwan . Recall manning, silent mob open mob.....etc all the funs stuff.
i think the biggerest adjustment is the humidity weather. Drink plenty of water.....
enjoy.....
I think you should serve NS and return back to US....and decide where u wanna stay.

dude you better check if you are allow to serve foreign armies if you held US citizenship....? what if you get letter for national guards? how r u going to reconcil that?
here we had the first snowfall of the year last week and in singapore its always just hot and humid so thats going to take some time to get used to. The reason I have to return to singapore is that my family is there and my future I guess. My family wants me to work for like the family business and I consider that a good life. I already have my driving license and I've had it since I was 16 and I have an internation driving license so thats no big deal either.
Welcome to SGF.
Hope u enjoy ur stay here.

could you not retained your citizen and go back to work and come back to the US for holidays. I know American stayed in SG for more than 26 yrs and they told me returning to US is like coming back for holidays. They eventually returned to florida to retired.
Additional passport helps if u need to move unexpectedly.
welcome welcome........erm, your nick beri long to type leh. can i address u as yum2?
I'm interested to see if you'll be able to hang on to both passports.
