Bring your passport and education supporting documents (if necessary) to the bank.
The bank officers will do the rest.
Just go into the bank... you will need some id (like passport, medibank private, etc) to meet the point requirement.
Please also apply for a Tax File Number which you can do it online (http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/38760.htm). It's not compulsory for opening the bank account but it just helps you not to get taxed unnecessarily.
The 4 major banks here are:
- Westpac (www.westpac.com.au)
- Commonwealth (www.commbank.com.au)
- ANZ (www.anz.com)
- National Australia Bank (www.nab.com.au)
Visit their website and find out which one suits you the most. Good luck!

Depends on what the bank requires.
If you are still unsure, then ask the bank officers first what documentation they require before you actually open the account.
It should be a relatively simple procedure.
they have student accounts too i think. those no need min sum or pay or somethig like that. go ask at the banks.
