You guys heard of this: http://5.mediacorptv.sg/programmesdetail.aspx?iid=MDC080829-0000004 ?
The Singapore govt is trying very hard to bring the overseas Singaporeans back and prevent Singaporeans from moving overseas.
I was just over on YouTube and managed to cringe my way through about 5 minutes of the "Shanghai" episode before the inept acting, awful dialogue and horribly, horribly contrived accents became more than I could humanly bear.
The Singapore government should be given credit for taking steps to stem the outflow of Singaporeans, but they definitely aren't going to accomplish that with this clunker of a TV series...

Hhaha that's true. :p
The "Home" commercial was driving me crazy too. It shows how a widowed dad cared for his daughter from young till she is a teenager. It tugged on my heart strings because it reminds me of MY widowed dad. I'm glad they are no longer showing that now.

This brings me back.... first they said, Boy or Girl, two is enough. Then they said, it's working too well, please have more kids.
Then they said, please widen your horizons, go overseas and work. Now it's please come back.

And the government officials that make these (in)decisions are paid millions of dollars.
Grand, ain't it?
The number one rule is - always do the opposite of what they tell you.
The "in" thing now is go into IR related jobs or train for one.
You can imagine the over supply of workers when the IR finally opens next year.
Yesiree.
Wage depression again.
well u do know that the PM oversea unit is monitoring this site....ha ha ha....anyway Yes they are freaking out as more singaporean are quiting Singapore.
But they aren't trying to convince folks that are already oversea to go back. They are focusing on Singaporean studying overseas to go back to work.
And they are very smart not to alienate folks staying oversea so they are asking us to continue to put singapore as a home base.
Personnally, there is nothing wrong to continue the network. I think if anyone that could bring Small business out from Singapore to your host country it helps Singapore to expand its activities. AFter 911 those who work for MNC lost jobs only those who work for SG companies keep their jobs.

They can't make up their minds, can they?
Totally. The "in" thing now is go into IR related jobs or train for one.
FX spoiled everything

u mean they are now encouraging people to learn how to gamble.
The campaign has started as early as 2000. They sent officials from AStar to major universities and congregated all Singaporeans at the respective campus for the "talk". Then they followed up with a letter from AStar and Contact Singapore or something like that.
Two months ago, I started receiving emails again from Contact Singapore. Not sure how they tracked my alumni contact, but they needed PhDs in my field to work in research departments in SG. Out of curiosity, I replied. The benefits are decent. Pay wise is somewhat competitive. But the idea of having to give up my life style is way too compromising. I spoke to this representative from AStar and she actually tempted me with the whole SG hawker food fare thing! My reply?
" If I can be that easily tempted with SG food, then I wouldn't be out here in the first place."
And they never bugged me again.
