Hi,
I give trying to find possible travel options between Tokyo & Yokohama... anyone can provide options (including pricing if possible) and where to change ...
1. Between Tawaramachi Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line) to Hiyoshi (Tokyu-Toyoko Line)
2. Between Narita Airport to Tawaramachi Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line)
Thanks.
why tawaramachi stn? you planning to go to kappabashi?
i think there are many route options...if i were you, if you are near tawaramachi, i'd try to get onto the JR Yamanote line at Ueno station (it's actually walking distance from tawaramachi). if you've the JR pass, then your ride on JR Yamanote will be covered by the pass.
then from ueno, i'll make my way to either meguro stn or shibuya stn on the JR Yamanote line. from shibuya stn, you can take the tokyu toyoko line (all services except limited express) to hiyoshi. or from meguro stn, you can take the Tokyu meguro line to hiyoshi too.
otherwise, you can also take the ginza line direct from tawaramachi to shibuya. and from shibuya, the tokyu toyoko line to hiyoshi.
from narita airport, the cheapest option will be to take the keisei tokkyu train to keisei ueno stn. from there, if you are without your luggage, you can probably walk to tawaramachi. otherwise, you might consider to transfer to the Ginza line at Ueno stn and ride 2 stops to tawaramachi.
another Q, is there a sort of 4 day metro pass for tourists? One that allow me to travel between the 2 stations mentioned above?
Thanks.
unfortunately no single pass will serve your need as ginza line is under tokyo metro, yamanote is JR, tokyu-toyoko & toyku meguro are private lines. perhaps you can let me know your more specific travel patterns in your 4 days? where will you be staying?
if you are going to tawaramachi direct from narita, you can consider buying the "Skyliner + 1 or 2 day Open Metro ticket" combo at narita airport stn which includes a 1-way ride on Keisei line to Keisei-Ueno (short walking distance to Ueno Stn) & a 1 or 2 day metro pass that will cover all your rides on Tokyo Metro (for example, your ride on the Ginza line from Ueno to Tawaramachi to Shibuya).
Skyliner+1day metro pass is JPY2,100 whereas Skyliner+2day metro pass is JPY2,480.
You'll need to figure out if the deal is worth it for you 'cos the ride on keisei from narita to keisei-ueno will cost you JPY1,920 and ride from Tawaramachi to shibuya will only cost JPY230. So unless you are planning to fully utilize the 1-day metro pass for more rides on the tokyo metro in that particular day...your savings won't work out to very substantial.
there are also 1-day (JPY600) or 2-day (JPY960) open ticket tokyo metro passes that you can purchase only at the narita stn if you are planning to travel using the tokyo metro a lot when you are within tokyo. base on my own calculations, the passes are worth it only if you are riding the tokyo metro at least 4 times a day. otherwise, you are probably better off just purchasing single ride tickets....and you've the flexibility to ride on other lines (i much prefer to go around tokyo on the JR Yamanote loop line 'cos it's usually much faster and cheaper too).

1 or 2 times every yr???? hmmm unless u just happened go from tokyo to yokohama everytime too lor...i already forgotten what train i took to go there the last time i went there.....
i can't remember the exact details offhand lah...but i can easily chart the routes if i have a rail map on hand (which i do)! and yes, i do travel from tokyo to yokohama sometimes.
I will be working near hiyoshi for about 4 days... thinking of a good place to stay where I can walk around at night - found a good n cheap (US$50) place to stay at Tawaramachi.... if there is any equivalent place... pls let me know....
So in short, its like...
Narita - (place to stay - hiyoshi - place to stay) x4 - Narita...... place to stay is still open.....
considerations are easier for transportation n affordable to stay :)

1. 210+230= 440 yen. Transfer at Shibuya to Tkyū Tyoko Main Line (普通/急行/通勤特急 only, 特急 will bypass Hiyoshi)
2. 1920+160=2080 yen. Keisei (Skyliner), then transfer at Ueno to Ginza Line.
It will only take 25 minutes on the Tkyū Tyoko Main Line (特急) from Shibuya to Yokohama. Took it, love it.

Any idea if got those multi-day pass w unlimited travelling? lostintransition says no single pass can connect the 2 lines...... so everyday will need to fork out 880 yen to n fro.... not to mention additional costs for sightseeing...

LIT is right, cos Tkyū is a private railway. so it's 880 yen to and fro. i can easily spend >1,000 yen on transport a day just sightseeing on a SUICA/PASMO. and let's not forget that yokohama is not in tokyo proper so such costs are expected.
the only way you can get around this is to use JR Pass/Seishun 18 Kippu.
the good thing about Tkyū Tyoko Line is the limited express connected to Minatomirai Line's Chinatown, even though the place is really just a tourist attraction. in Tokyo, you can find more shops catering for Chinese in Ikebukuro.

how long are you staying there and what's your budget?
there isn't a really comprehensive guide for accomodation in English I feel. word-of-mouth from fellow travellers are better.... too bad we don't have a thread on travelling to Japan yet...
planning to be there 4th week of Sept around 4days for work at Hiyoshi... trying to look for a place nearby where I can walk n sightsee at night. Maybe will have 1 extra day to myself to sightsee before going back....
4 day nia... forget it lah.. just ask ur japanese colleague where got place to go see see lah.. most likely they entertain u for 1 nite nia.. then u will be on ur own...especially u got nite time only..... not much place u can go lah...tiring one lah..
so must ID the best possible place to c c look look at nite....

sounds good advice, thanks!
if you want to get away from touristy attractions, you can catch a train from yokohama to kanazawa, about 15min if you take the express line. there, you can mingle and do what the local does. there is a beach there as well as local themepark, with roller coaster rides and all. you can pass your day easily there.
i like to go-the-road-less travelled itinerary. when i was last there on vacation with my family, we visited a bosaikan at yokokawo, tokyo. bosaikan is a life safety learning centre. there, we took part and learnt what to do in an earthquake. we participated in a earthquake drill and was in an earthquake simulation room to feel what is it like to be in a room when a earthquake is happening and have things fall over your head. pretty cool. i am sure you can find a bosaikan in yokohama too if this appeals to you. i think you need to make reservation.
kanazawa or kanagawa? thought kanazawa is far far....
