nah is not going to sterotype This is the 2nd olympic that Jia wei is playing i know there are alot more PRC born but u have to understand that these candidates came to singapore when there were a teen 12 / 13th yrs old. so much of their training still depend upon their host country.
I had just wish that she would have shown passion with the sport.
The US swimming team start training at the age of 9 yrs old. They would have condition their body when they reach 18yrs. So unless Singaporean parent start sending their kids at that age to train in 1 Sport event for 8 yrs. and lets face it most kids will quit. Parent needs to keep them in focus.

go~~~singapore~~~go~~~~ :)
I think at this stage the team should not be so humble but aim for Gold!
BEIJING (AP) -- Singapore advanced Friday to the gold medal match of women's team table tennis, outlasting South Korea 3-2 in a tense face-off highlighting their opposite styles of play.
The aggressive Singaporeans tried repeatedly to win points with high-speed returns whizzing with topspin, while South Korea's Kim Kyung-ah and Park Mi-young-- the world's top defensive players -- countered with backspin-heavy chops that seemed to float across the net.
Singapore, ranked No. 2 in the team event, will face the winner of the China-Hong Kong contest to be played later Friday. The finals are Sunday.
After Singapore's Feng Tianwei won the final point in the 31/2-hour contest, she jumped in the air as coach Liu Guodong ran onto the floor and squeezed her in his arms. Liu, the older brother of China coach Liu Guoliang, later bent his head down and kissed the table.
The win guarantees at least a silver medal for the tiny city-state of Singapore, whose last Olympic medal was a silver in weightlifting in 1960.
"We haven't won a medal in 48 years. I've been anticipating this match since the Athens Olympics," said Singapore's Li Jia Wei.
China was expected to advance into the finals, and Singapore downplayed their chances against the heavily favored host team.
"For us to get the finals, we feel like we've already done really well. China is definitely stronger than us and all we can do is compete," Li said.
"Besides the Chinese, we're the next best team," Liu added.
The closest match in the afternoon contest featured the best players on the two teams -- world No. 11 Kim and No. 6 Li. The pair strung together numerous long rallies that were cheered by the pro-Singapore crowd, who pounded inflatable thundersticks and rattled plastic abacuses.
Li tested Kim's tactic of patiently returning shots with a chop and waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. The Singaporean would maintain the slow pace for a few volleys then abruptly change speeds and stab at the ball with a forehand.
Kim won in five games, 5-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9. She raised both fists after scoring the last point, then crumpled to the ground in relief.
The final match, which determined who would battle for gold and who would end up with bronze at best, pitted Park against attacking player Feng Tianwei.
The Korean made spectacular saves but was ultimately unable to contain Feng, whose expertly placed shots had Park chasing slams that bounced 10 feet past the table then scurrying forward as the next return dribbled just over the net. Feng won 7-11, 10-12, 11-3, 9-11.
i know there are plenty of negative report about our table tennis player being PRC origin which i agreed. But in view of the position that SG table tennis has put themselve i would think that a gold medal would help to redem being a PRC origin.
let me know your thoughts.
by the way what happen to the sg sailor?

I believe Singapore will be getting more medals from now on but I want to see success is other sports as well instead of the usual ping pong.Sianz
looks like the Team Singapore paralympics are doing better than the one with 4 limps and FT. Very proud for laurentia Tan and Nothing to Lose " GREAT JOB!!!!
Paralympics: Singapore's Laurentia Tan wins second Equestrian bronze
SINGAPORE : Singapore’s Laurentia Tan has won a bronze medal in an Equestrian event on Tuesday, giving the country its first—ever medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games
Tan, who rode on horse "Nothing To Lose", took third placing in the Individual Championship Test Grade 1A event. Britain’s Anne Dunham and S Christiansen took the gold and silver respectively.
Tan will be the first to receive the Athletes Achievement Award (AAA) set up by the Singapore National Paralympic Council. The award comprises a monetary reward of S$25,000 for her bronze medal in the individual event.
The AAA incentives of S$100,000, S$50,000 and S$25,000 are respectively for gold, silver and bronze medal placings at the Paralympic Games individual events
SINGAPORE: When she was five, Laurentia Tan was described as a "vegetable". Born with cerebral palsy, she could not speak, hear, walk or sit, and her parents Anselm and Jannie were advised to admit her into an institution.
They refused.
Today, their 29-year-old daughter is an Oxford Brooks University graduate based in the United Kingdom. She has a career, drives a car and is now a star athlete, after collecting a second bronze medal at the 13th Paralympic Games on Thursday.
On Tuesday, she became Singapore's first Paralympic medallist when she came in third in the individual championship (Grade 1a) event at the Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian Centre in Shatin. On Thursday night, she won bronze again, this time in the individual freestyle test (Grade 1a), posting an average score of 70.167 in the 13-strong field.
For The 2nd Bronze :
She has to concentrate on the horse's rhythm and his way of going, so that she can stay in time with the music which she can't hear. She has to rely on me to signal the start and end of the music. Other than that, I am not allowed to get involved.
"I think training a deaf rider is really difficult and for a deaf rider to overcome (the challenges) takes a lot of courage and commitment."
Singapore won an historic medal at the Paralympics. Laurentia Tan riding Nothing to Lose caused quite the sensation with a stunning performance, thus earning the first equestrian medal at the Paralympic Games not only for Singapore, but for the whole of Asia.
Dont forget we must also give a medal to the horse
Well this is 1 Singaporean i am really proud for winning 2 bronze medals.. At least she is not some foreign import.

she rocks!!!!!
a close fren of mine has a daughter with celebral palsy. she's nine this year and is still in a `vegetative' state. i hope this inspires and gives him some faith/hope that things can go well with his daughter as well over time. dun ever give up, bro!
what i am surprise is that Singapore did not gave that much attention after all the whoo ha about FT in Sports. I think Singaporean should get together and have a bigger celebration of sportmanship in SG and honor her win.
I mean she is classified under the worst condition. To get up on a horse and ride and compete and won said a lot about characters and determination. If we do not honor her spirit of competition and determination. Sg is doing a disservice.
