Used to have a Lakeview market and hawker centre nearby

Wow! No wonder so much but it really saves you the physical hassle. I ran all those errands on my own. The toughest part was waiting for the flight at Narita. There are no grassy areas to speak of! My dogs couldn't do what they needed to do.

Used to?!?!? Isn't it still there? ????

Hubby worried I will mess up paperwork, and Tammie might get jammed at airport, so he said to go JetPets.... Maybe when I reach S'pore I will learn how to buy 4D to see if I win the cost back

gone, just a big empty space... all my yummy foood
So Tammy, have you resolved your situation ? I would love for my Mum to come over but thinking about displacing her saddens me.
MG, how are your arrangements coming along? You seem to be enjoying Sg. Was it bittersweet entering the country with a US pp?

Ah... I didn't have that option cause we're military so we did it all on our own. Good luck with the digits.
Why did they demolish Lakeview? I'm so sad!

I will be back in Sg, and see how it goes....just worried I will be homesick for Melbourne.... Now I will be torn between 2 cities....but just think of the convenience of getting all the yummy food.
Does ur mum prefer Sg or US? Maybe, she might actually like moving over???

Then you should be familiar with this view:
Used to spend quite a bit of time there as a kid too. I used to always get my hair cut at the Renga Indian barber there.
At least they left the area a park of sorts after the market was demolished...

She's been to SFO (older sis' place) many many times. While she enjoys each visit she makes, she says it's not home. She misses her friends, her independence. I've only been here about 3 years and she's visited twice. She likes it here cause it's warmer than SFO but I have to drive her everywhere. She's getting older and I worry about her well being. But you know, sometimes I wish I were back in Sg. I know it's not the same Sg I left behind more than a decade ago but... I still think of it as home.

I soooo wanted to live in those flats you know! But my parents decided to get one in s'goon north instead. I used to prowl Thomson Plaza too. I was shocked that Yaohan is no more. Each visit back, we have to eat at Nam Kee. Nam Kee rocks!

She is like my fren's mum, 3 months in Melbourne, she says she missed her kopitiam frens and mixed veg rice. It is hard for older people to settle in to a new place.

She lives in my Sg flat and the time has finally come for me to sell it. So it's making her think about moving over here.

Not really. A passport to me is just a travel document. I haven't ditched my NRIC yet, so I haven't quite completely lost my "Singapore identity" here.
It'll be interesting returning stateside, though. I'll be able to breeze through the "US Citizens" line at the immigration checkpoint for the first time.
jetta, sg has change too much over these few years.... too many foreign elements that are not exactly nice. I guess we miss the food and convenience there more than anything, And if you choose to go back to sg, will ur kids be able to adapt??

I don't think one ever loses their Sg identity, for me at least. How are you liking your time there? How long will this stay be?

I hate to burst your bubble, but if you're referring to the Nam Kee that's a few doors down from the Thomson Bridal Studio along the row of shophouses next to the Longhouse, then you should know that the quality of their kai fan has gone way downhill. However, their other cooked food is actually quite decent.

Changes come fast and furious to Singapore. The skyline has been dramatically altered within the last few years, and there's no shortage of new construction projects, especially condos. I'm actually beginning to believe that 6 million people in Singapore by 2020 might actually be feasible.
We've been eating out almost everyday, and I'm frankly a bit tired of the local fare already.

I'll have to conduct an official taste test to confirm. I await your Fedex package.

Strange. The girl that I had a huge crush on back during my poly days used to live at Jalan Pemimpin...
Do you remember the hawker center at Lakeview used to have a very popular stall selling prawn mee? It was right next to a stall selling you tiao.

U oso lived in Jalan Pemimpin??
I think I recall the prawn mee, but I am not a fan of prawn mee...I like the teochew fish soup there, and the duck rice
