Like to know about fuel efficient cars including hybrid that are currently on the market?
I had recently rented a Ford Escape. On my way back when I was in Barstow my SUV fuel
light came on. So I pump in 3 gallons, I wanted to know if it is truely 30 MPG.
I drove from Barstow to Upland . The light came on after 210 Archibald.
Estimated Barstow to Upland 80.8 miles.
i have a friend that has a prius (how ever you spell it), he says it's a good car but the maintance of it is slowly killing him. it still needs gas to charge the batt up.
hanor.....i watch city tv news hor, says at the end of the day, cost more leh. not on gas but maybe on maintenance?
that is what i heard I am thinking of changing my car at the end of this year that is why i ask because i am confused. I don't want to buy something and regret for the next few years.
with oil prices like they are now, you should be test driving a prius or a smart car, not an SUV ...
have to evaluate everything was wondering if stick shift would be better?

Get a Corolla or a Yaris? They get pretty good mpg's.

Corollas get 33 mpgs.
Yaris = high 30s
Hyundai Elantra (auto) 33 mpgs. (The hubster tracks mpgs on his Elantra daily.)
when considering a fuel efficient car, its probably best to consider a car with a very fuel efficient petrol engine. Hybrid engines just don't work. Not to be mention about not being green. Remember that most of the figures quoted for fuel consumption are done under ideal conditions, which rarely happen in real life. Have to also evaluate things like, what you need the vehicle for, how many kms you would be doing, do you need lugging space? or is it just you most of the time?
Japanese cars obviously would be more fuel efficient because of light weight etc. But the new BMW efficient dynamics engines are quite good. See new upgraded one series.
With jap cars stick with Honda and Toyota. MHO. No point having a really fuel efficient car that gives lots of mechanical problems. My two cents worth.
did anyone read Top Gear where the guy drove a BMW M3 to track a Prius...
the V8 414HP engine of the BMW ultimately consumed less fuel than the Prius

currently i go about 40 miles a day for work. sometime in one day if i have to visit n go places about 140 miles day.
fuel efficient engine and low maintainance is what i look for.

Not touting Hyundai but as you know, they have the longest warranty - 10 years or 100K miles. Our first service appt is at 7500 miles.
While I like the Corolla, cost-wise the base price is way higher than the Elantra. Hyundai is running a $2K off deal which is almost over.
