Does a person who emigrated overseas have to renew the exit permit on a yearly basis until the age of 40? I ask because ns.sg only allows me to renew my exit permit to the maximum of a year for PR purposes.
What do the nsmen who emigrated overseas do about this issue?

That's strange. My exit permits were always valid for three years up until I stopped requiring them a couple of years back.
It was still a hassle to renew, as I had to snail-mail MINDEF proof of my overseas employment along with the renewal application each time. The renewals were always granted on the basis of overseas employment, though--they never inquired about my then-PR status.
Can you not get a company stationary and type a letter of employment that state at least a longer period of time.
i got mine extended for a year even though my employment letter states im employed for 2 years with the option to extend.. but it's pretty easy to get it approved.
I renewed the exit permit through www.ns.sg. I would have though ti would have an indefinite vaild period if a person is a PR overseas. So it seems I have to renew it online every year to avoid breaking the 'law' or give up sg citizenship (which I will do in a heartbeat when I meet the criteria). How ridiculous!
