Howzabout a thread for overseas Singaporeans to share images of their summer experiences and activities, eh? I'll start the ball rolling.
The following pictures were taken at Lock & Dam No. 2 on the Mississippi River just outside the town of Hastings, south of St. Paul. This area, being part of a wildlife preserve, sees its share of migratory birds, and I managed to snap a few pictures of some egrets (I think that's what they are, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!) that happened to be passing by. Some of these pictures were taken at extreme zoom, so please pardon the grainy quality.
This how the day started when we headed out to Hastings:
Then, returning from the dam, the weather turned nasty. Very nasty:
Bear in mind the previous image was taken around noon. We had multiple lines of severe thunderstorms move through the cities, dumping lots of rain and golfball sized hail. A good friend who lives in a 'burb slightly north of me reported that they were hit by hail that accumulated to a depth of 4 inches on the ground. Fortunately, my neighbourhood "only" got hit with torrential amounts of rain, and there were no reports of tornadoes even though the sirens were wailing.
Another view of the storm to the north:
Here's a weird-looking but ominous cloud formation that was seen during the storm:
By early evening, most of the storms had passed, and this was seen as we were heading out for dinner:
Edited to add:
Here's a picture of the hail accumulating on the deck of my good friend Dave's house during the hailstorm mentioned above:
The depth of the hailstones covering the deck attests to the intensity of the storm (and it wasn't over yet when that picture was snapped!). I live about two miles south of Dave, but fortunately it didn't hail in my area.

We were at the street festival but didn't take any pics. On our way back to the car, we came across a stream and look what we saw. A bird with its catch of the day!

oh, have you landed in MA? how are you settling in? i've been to boston only once. it's more than a 10-hour drive from where i am. but the drive via maine and vermont were gorgeous. i enjoyed the hills and scenic drives.
had boston lobsters but nothing compared with our nova scotia lobsters lah. kekekeke.........must support local mah. hee hee....
sadly, the cruise do not stop at that island liao. when i went in the very early 90s, either 91 or 92, we were able to land, go up the statue and browse. actually, for one moment, i tot the pic was of the maid of the mist at niagara. heh heh........

oh no....we've yet to move over..that'll happen only next year July. we made a trip to MA in june for my spouse's interview and also to check out the area. drove from NYC to Niagara Falls (US) to Boston to Cape Cod and back to NYC. there were many pretty sights along the way! had lobsters & seafood at cape cod...i'm not a big seafood fan but still a very good treat. ohh...as for the cruise to statue of liberty...you can still stopover and go onto the island. as for the visit up the statue...you'll need to apply for entry up the statue a couple of days in advance..and you can't climb all the way to the top.
here are some photos taken of/on the Maid of the Mist & statue of liberty
1st and 2nd picture from millenium park. 3rd is from some place in downtown chicago and last is from sears tower :)
