MOVING TO AUSTRALIA NEED SOME ADVICE

23/m looking for job in australia got sick and tired working in sg liao....tooo many foreigner worker liao salary wages pull down by those foreigner working china, india, filipino etc....employer will try any way to get rid of u if ya salary are too high....in sg like have to work like none stop employer expect u to work 12hour per day 7 day a week 365day per year 2 rotating shift like no life 1 and give u a fXXXd up increament like 20-40cent WTF.......NNBCCB........surf 2 year national service for wat waste of my time. now apply my 175 visa plan to move to australia.....bo bian this is life..all thx to LKU

I was told by a friend who came back from downunder that they require foreigners to have work secured before they are allowed to stay on in australia. this friend came back because she could not find any job there

my friend work as a fluit picker for 3 year there $17 p/h

as long you take up the jobs no aussie want to do, shouldn't be hard to get a work permit in your case. what field are you in fatqueenlet ? fluit picker ? same goes for the us and canada too.. no one wants to pick fluits whatever that is, thats why we've got a bunch of mexicans and indians to pick fluits !
$17/hr is good money but taxes are kinda high too and fluit picking is something i don't really want on my resume.

Don't think it's easy to find job being a non-citizen in Australia, they protect their own there, unlike Singapore who lets in more foreigners to suppress wages (but does not lead to fall in price levels, instead we get inflation of above 6%).All the best, hope you find happiness there.

When your pay is high and tax is high, you still get a higher than Singapore salary.When your pay is low and there are no taxes, you still end up poorer than Australians.

i know about the tax systems.. pretty much like canada's. i'm not saying you won't earn more in aus, i'll never get paid what i'm getting now in sg for my current position. it's not easy getting into the service industry overseas, esp in a good restaurant.. i know, i just turned down a Singaporean kid's dream of working in my kitchen.

If they are short of hairstylist and the citizen population is not able to fill the gap, then I agree with their policy of sourcing for foreign labour.But in Singapore's case, even if the citizen population is able to fill the gaps, they will still import more foreign labour. Their policy is a failure, as can be seen from the high rate of inflation (6.7% in April 2008) as compared to other similar GDP per capita countries. With the use of so much low wage workers, it's suppose to bring down price levels (e.g. transport, food, retail, energy, etc), instead it led to widespread inflation, obviously the cost savings has not been passed down to consumers.

Simple reason. You are not a CITIZEN in Australia. Citizenship has it's privileges unlike Singapore which is a liability if you are male.You will only get employed if the particular industry there has a shortage in citizen workers.

Singapore's leaders pride itself in their ingenuity of competing against 3rd world country in terms of wages.It's like Switzerland, instead of commanding higher wages in terms of it's quality and branding. It decides to import more PRCs to Switzerland to lower the wages and quality of work and life.

of course citizenship has it's privileges.. it also depends on you skill trade. i got offered a job in aus for a sous chef position and there are lots of chefs in aus. i don't need or want to be an australian citizen, i'm pretty happy where i am now.. and what does being a citizen has to do anything to my last post ?

It's called foresight, something lacking from our P4P government.
So long as you like it where you are, then it should be fine. Even dwellers in hades has their advantages. Some folks in the Africa, India and China still choose to remain in their country of birth because it's where they have their roots. Where they have their childhood memories, their friends and families.

At least you could be sure of getting medical treatment with the high taxes you pay in Australia.The best part is, you still end up with higher disposable income after the high taxes in Australia as compared to Singapore.
The thing with the Singapore regime is, they use the profits they get from taxes, invest it in monopolies in Singapore, then when super normal profits is made, they keep it in the government coffers instead of using it to help her citizens.

well, the world has a shortage for chefs.. they offered me the job because of my culinary training and skills.. not because of the shortage in the future. i'm not bragging or anything here, but i've got offered good positions here in toronto so yeah.
and for some reasons your reply to me seems like i'm working in singapore..
