Ben was just talkling about ice wine in the SC thread about more Singaporeans in Australia... sighhh... miss that... it is really nice and ice wine is hard to get in South Australia.
With that in mind, would people here like to share their favourites and their suggestions for good wines from the regions that they are in... I will have a think and post something in a bit...
ice wines are over priced because of mark up .....
my parents kenna ketok when they came to visit me, they bought a few bottles at more than C$100 each when they visited one of those tourist trap vineyards ....
I rolled my eyes, drove them to the liquor board store, and showed them the exact same stuff priced at C$35 each ...

Just got back from the Hillebrand Vineyards here in Niagara-on-the-lake, Ontario. They are the 1st winery in Canada to produce em and by far the better ones.. I'm also currently taking a part time Sommeiler course too.. =)
I try to make it a point to visit the vineyards every season..

which vineyards did they go to ? in ontario ? if it is, i'm going to make a report. in ontario, prices are controlled by the LCBO and the VQA.
ice wines are really good if paired right with food.. one good pairing is, don't laugh... Buffalo wings with bleu cheese dip and a nice
The Settlement Wine Company is one that I regularly visit to get my ports and marsala in South Australia.
http://thesettlementwineco.com.au/
Their table wines are okay, but its their liqueurs and fortified wines that I go there for.
Love the Marsala de Cucina and the luqueur muscat. For cheap and good their bulk port and muscat are very good for the price.
a typical bottle of inniskillin ice wine if I can get it here costs $80AUD.
if you can get a hold of niepoort 'ports', try it..
http://www.niepoort-vinhos.com/
they have really good LBVs.. for tawny i still stick to taylor fladgate.

inniskillin is good but hillebrand is sooo much better. $80AUS sounds about right.

Cabernet Franc Icewine !!!
no, it's at one of those okanagen valley traps in BC ..... I've only tried inniskillin's stuff before ... and I suppose the prices ranges widely ... anything from mid 20s to over a hundred ... the one that I drink (and my parents bought) costs C$35 at the liqour board store, and well over a hundred in Singapore ...
I find ice wine a drink that anyone can appreciate, it's almost like sipping a sweet, fruity punch ...
but nevermind, I'm a beer drinker ...

hey how much is the hillebrand one? I will see if I can get it here.
on the topic of beer... I have never drunk it...
Have a few bottles of ice wine at home
I dunno how you guys feel about it but I am wondering if it is the weather in Oz lately because I find the quality of wines in Oz is dropping?
I'm no expert in tasting wine but I don't think they taste as good as they used to.
MPB feels the same too that we have stopped buying Australian wines but go for the European ones
i was a poor stdent in SA for 4 years
my regular purchases were the $6.35 Angoves, Butterfly Ridge reislings
to go with my $4.95 domino pizzas (the one with olives and onions)
i drink these in singapore:-
hakutsuru sake
michel torino sauvignon blanc 187ml <- from argentina, cannot find now, so sad
leon de tarapaca sauvignon blanc 187ml <- from chile
cruz garcia real sangria <- from spain
Jim Beam Cola
Bacardi Breezer
I don’t really care too much for ice wine as I find them too sweet.
For the last few years I have continue to be attracted by Chilean wineries. I find the price and quality is quite a catch. I think it is value for money if you can get it cheap.
My top recommendation would be Montes. I thinks the price and taste is remarkable. You can play with wine glass to bring up the aroma. The price in the US is selling between US$8.50 to US$13.00 I am sure if you get it from Santiago is half that price. I think is great drinking alone. Its equally good with food. In 2006 I could not find it in SG but maybe you can get it now.
2nd Recommendation would be Concha Y Toro Marques I think this is a great bottle it cost about US$13.00 a bottle. Certainly with Red meat Lamb or Beef.
3rd would be wine from Conchagua valley such as Melbec. Great with food. US$3.99 a bottle.
4th is Santa Helena Reserve from Colchagua Valley. This bottle is not circulated in the US. ( I saw this bottle sold in SG restaurant for SGD80 dollars. It cost US$6.00 in South and central America). I love it. Its a shy bottle. Require a little piatent and sensitive taste to explore the taste.
15th minutes from my apt are a couple of private wineries that they do not do mass circulation, they are great but i don't share the same passion as i do for Chilean wines.

There was a drought and then there was rain right at the wrong time which ruined a lot of the crops for the harvest. One of my clients who was a wine maker was badly affected, he lost around 1/2 of the grapes.
But also with australian vs euro wines, the aussie wines have a higher alcohol content and my better half and I prefer the euro wines.
we buy inniskillin icewine but i find it too sweet. actually, port also too sweet for me leh.
thanks, ben....i'll go check out hillebrand. how about that chateau simi simi on niagara on the lake?

Château des Charmes ? they've got good wines.. using old world methods to make their wines. their late harvest riesling is a must try.. very good ratings, as good as the rieslings from Alsace, France.
yeah port can be really sweet if it's just drunk alone.. stay away from the white ports LS if red is too sweet.

yeah, global warming is not going to help.. remember 97 ? half of frances wines were labelled undrinkable !
buy wine in france. drink wine in france. having a glass of wine is cheaper than getting a glass of water. too bad i was only 13/14. i could get a good bottle of wine for 6 euros. but the bloody euro is so strong. that cheap wine becomes not-so-cheap anymore after converting it back to canadian/singapore dollars =(
my parents do sometimes buy canadian ice wine back to singapore for friends. they seem to like that kind stuff. but really i think ice wine bottles are nice =p
one can get cheap strong stuff from china too. and it's really not bad. if that's the kind of thing u like to drink. i hate chinese wine though. even the smell is too strong for me.
and i reckon vodka isnt too expensive in russia. seeing how most people dont earn all that much but can still afford to drink it....and the rouble isnt all that strong, so getting stuff in russia (at the right places) cant be too expensive either...
I prefer Dow's Port Wine, sweet lingering taste.
I hate Merlot, taste like vinegar. *pukes*

Chilean wines are amazing, esp whenit comes down to the prices.
Castillo del Diablo's Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 is one of the better cab sauv i've drunk in years. Maipo Valley, Chile makes really darn good cabernet sauvignon.
Carmenere is another good grape that comes from chile..
