Well, it finally happened.
At precisely 2:26 p.m. this afternoon, in a simple but tasteful ceremony held at the US District Court in downtown Minneapolis, I, along with 55 other permanent residents, surrendered my "green card," took the Oath of Citizenship and became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.

Dunno who I'll vote for come November. The current crop of candidates does not impress me, except perhaps with the exception of McCain.

My SG passport expires later this year, and I have not decided if I want to go through the hassle of renewing it. I guess that would be pegged to the larger question of whether or not I want to maintain dual citizenship, which the US government implicitly allows and the SG one doesn't. Decisions, decisions...
I believe most of the current candidates support some form of immigration amnesty for illegals in order to appeal to the broadest possible base of voters. It's the same disgusting tune that has been played by pandering politicians and lapped up by an annoyingly ignorant electorate.
Oh dear, I thought you are pregnant

I got my "green card" and '93 and could have initiated the naturalization process 5 years thereafter, i.e., in '98, but I guess I was kinda lazy...
I submitted the paperwork for naturalization in June of last year, so the entire process took just under 8 months. Pretty quick, if you ask me. I think the only country that processes citizenship applications faster is... Singapore!
Congratulations MG
