Since many of us are away from family, how are you guys observing CNY? I'm just having the usual steamboat dinner, just the four of us. I really wish my mother could be with us here or us there with her. I haven't celebrated CNY in Sg for... (thinking).... 10 years now. My kids were so young then they don't remember anything, only ang pows.
had not celebrate CLNY for a long time doesn't really mean anything. Steamboat sound good for this cold weather. I guess u could joint the singapore club cNY dinner to get a feel

Not at $35 a person. Kids 12 and over are charged the adult rate as well. Steamboat at home sounds fabulous.

Er.... my parents have never had ginseng in the house, the entire time I was growing up. What's so special about US ginseng?

Thursday. What a mood killer huh?
not celebrating this year
last year, my dad brought some of that 'loh hei' stuff from singapore over. he can't make it over this year. so......
For me, there is no celebrating anyway.
Maybe will arrange the 2nd day of CNY with Club 30s, to go pray 'tai shui' just fr the fun of it.

Congrats! What possessed you to make the trip this year? When did you get there? Have you gotten used to the weather? Enjoy yourself thoroughly and eat like a pig hor. Can't wait to see the pics and listen to some stories. Happy CNY Mr and Mrs VSE!
Jetta, it was a last minute decision. Believe it or not, we bought our tix 2 days before we left LAX. Spent a good 5 days in Taipei before heading to SG.
The weather is the least of the concerns. There are too many little things that I am trying to get used to. This is a sign that I am a visitor and not a local. I have other things planned, eg Geylang Serai, Ubin, Little India and such.
"Really...please value your life and not cause inconveniences by jumping onto oncoming MRTs. Pple need go to work!!"
"The nature's way of drying undergarments."
"So...which one should I buy?"
"Rushing to pray for a better year."
i when to my boss resident today; he had a swiming pool in his backyard. I found a dead Rat floating in the Pool.
Told him about it. He asked me if it was Good luck or bad luck for the begining of the year of the RAT!

VSE. Hilarious captions. Did you fork over lots of cash for the tickets since it was a last minute thing? How was Taipei? Enjoy your visit. Hope it's a long one but not long enough for you to yearn to get outta there. More pics please! Living vicariously through you.
Taipei was a memorable trip as well. I always have a thing or two about Taiwan. You never get tired of the buzzing, lively streets filled with mom/pop shops, be it food or other commodities. A scene which IMO is disappearing from SG. Sure the Taipei pollution is bad. But who cares when you have the best bowl of beef noodles in town for US$5. Btw, we visited the first Ding Tai Feng as well. That was quite something...lol!
Back to SG...
"The scene at Changi Village during CNY."
"Standing in line for Ayam Penyet."
"Then stood in line again for Nasi Lemak."
"I ate like a champion. Two orders of Lemak and one order of Penyet. Can't beat the staggering S$9 tag!"
nice food...
VSE, since you were at Changi Village, did you eat at Charlie's Corner? That's one of my must-visits when I'm there. What's next on your schedule? Boy are you enjoying yourself, eating like there's no tomorrow. I sense an urgency. Are you leaving soon? What's the biggest change you've seen so far?
I have been to Charlie's Corner b4 but not this time.
Biggest change? Everything. In particular the whole hire-a-maid (or should I say hire-2-maids) culture and bashing of foreign nationals (Chinese from China in particular) which I loathe. I think some Singaporeans need to accept the fact that our grandparents used to be considered foreign nationals back in the early 1900s as well. The current flux of foreign nationals is just another phase in population migration.
A few more pictures.
Chicken curry noodles...
Bedok bus interchange food center.
Famous Lim Chee Guan bak gua!!
Durian vendor @ Geylang.
The backdrop of shop houses in Bugis.
Another old building near Armenian Road waiting to be torn down...
