Mae Sa Long is a mountain place much like Malaysia's Cameron Highlands where they grow mostly tea.
Its inhabited by hill tribe people as well as Chinese from Taiwan's descent.
What happens is that a troop of taiwanese soldiers was forced up the borders & mountains by Communist. And they eventually settled down as Thai nationals after working out a agreement with Thai government to fend off the communist that that border mountain.
