MG, thanks. I've just posted a thread and only just now saw this one that you've started.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:Heard about the wildfires currently burning in and around San Diego; authorities are saying the fires are "out of control."
Please check in and let us know how you're doing.
Whoa! Thanks for the heads-up!Originally posted by Hello Kitty:
Yes Escondido residents have been told to evacuate. It's very bad up there skid. Check out the local NBC station at www.nbc739.com for details. The area between the 5, the 15 and the 78 have been shut down.Originally posted by skid:parts of the city I went to high school at, Escondido, are supposed to be under evacuation orders...heard that second hand, don't know how accurate it is.
btw..Escondido is in north San Diego County.

Yes it's outta control. Is your sister okay?
My alarm clock is tuned to the radio and I was shocked awake this morning. The fire that started a couple of days ago has become a raging inferno. It's bad. All day long on TV we've been seeing homes burning to the ground. Horrible, horrible, horrible. Towns to the east of us have been evacuated and we are waiting to see if we're next. We can't flee up north because the 5 and the 15 are blocked either by fires up there or by traffic. It's bad. Del Mar, La Jolla and Carlsbad residents have been told to evacuate just a few hours ago.
Here's a funny tale. This morning as I was getting ready for work (just in case), I heard the mayor saying that we should all stay put and not go to work or school. I called my HR dept and they told me to stay put. Come 1030am, I get a call from a co-worker and she's asking me, how I was, etc. Then she asked, where are you? When I told her I was home, she asked, why? I told her my conversation with HR and she laughed. Sears never closes she said. Not even on the day of the 9/11 attacks! So I went to work 2 hours late. Can you believe that I sold two appliances this morning?!??
Anyway, our weathermen say that the Santa Anas show no signs of abating until Wednesday so we shall see what the new day brings. Thanks for checking up on me MG.
Check out our local NBC station? www.nbc739.com for what's been happening. My heart has been breaking over the images I've seen. Homes just burning burning burning. So many homes have been compromised. A couple of these towns are close to us, just the next couple of towns over. We have been advised to stay indoors and run the a/c. There is ash outside and I'm thankful that none of us have asthma or any kind of lung ailment.Originally posted by Meia Gisborn:jetta,
GLAD YOU HEAR YOU'RE OKAY... at least for the time-being.
You're right--it doesn't look good. The fires appear out of control, at least according to all the news reports I've been reading. Is your house in the path of the fire?
If the evacuation order is given, where will you be directed to go?
I don't think my sister's in any danger. She up in Orange County (Garden Grove, actually), which I don't believe is in the path of the fires.
Stay safe, okay?
Can you believe New Orleans is flooded right now?Originally posted by littlestream:

Thank you. Frankly I'm a little worried. This is a time when you wish you had friends and family close by. Both of which, as you know, we don't have here. Our family in Seattle, esp Granny, are very worried. They keep asking us to drive up there.Originally posted by littlestream:
