what do you do if you have a parent who isn't able to speak the language of your new home, isn't willing to learn, isn't willing to move, and wants to you return?

I'd stay put wherever I am. I didn't get this far only to turn around so soon. My own parents would understand that.
I guess though that when one's an only child, the matter of supporting and being there for one's own ageing parents alters the situation greatly. However, I'm not one. -
problem is i am the only child. i don't want to return simply because there are no prospects for what i want to do in sg.

Which country are you planning to go? Have you talked to your parents about that?
Your parents can always spend half of the time overseas with you and half of the time back in Singapore. -

my father isn't the kind of person that knows how to show his emotions well (nor hide them). he didn't outright tell me not to go, but he kept showing me all the local alternatives, or stuff he though were similar. basically he was trying to convince me to stay, but i am already convinced not to stay.

Stay put, arrange for frequent visits both ways. Ensure they have good extended family support in Sg.

Just live your life. Your parents can't expect you to shelf your life and not live it to the fullest.

I was in your situation and I am half way around the world.
Do what you need to do. -
my dad flies half way round the world at least once every two months
and stays for up to two weeks
of course, there is the issue of number of days he can take leave
he calls up people he knows to see if there are conferences or stuff so that instead of taking leave, he can say that its for work. -
I've been away for many moons now and my mother flies out to see us every now and again, staying for months at at time. Wherever in the world we got stationed at, I've had to make lots of adjustments (when in Rome, do as the Romans do, etc). It's hard enough for me to make the adjustments I've had to make, I cannot imagine how much harder it would be for my mum. Even though I would love to have her under the same roof, I would not want her to uproot and give up all that she knows and loves. My sis has asked her and continues to ask Mum to come over and live but Mum has confided in me that life outside of Sg just isn't for her. they actually came to visit me last x'mas, but sadly of the 5 days they were in tokyo, i had to be in kobe for 3. so i only managed to recieve them at the airport, and later send them off again.

but if u wanna buy jap products, best is ask ur family to buy inSG den ltr mail to u. cheaper dat way even u add in the delivery charges.
anyway, juz make them feel dat it's impt for u n u urgently in need of their support.
