Er... that was me. But I could order food. I lived in Japan for 6 years but in my defence, I didn't have to interact with the Japanese on a daily basis.Originally posted by nismoS132:so you have those that've been here for 2 years and still can't string together a proper sentence.
not always true lah.. when i was there.. my chinese colleague actually prefer to mix with jap than chinese... oh of coz he love korean too... then after i leave.. another of my chinese colleague took over my job.. she can speak jap now just within 1 yr.. maybe coz of her jap bf too lah haha...go to their cc lah.. got free class one.. not really class lah.. but jap ppl wanting to teach u jap.. then just talk talk talk till u can speak... or the other way round.. jap who wan to learn english.. then u go there everyweek to just chat with them to help them improve...sighz.. knn i missed tokyo.... sighz....Originally posted by nismoS132:i haven't had a chance to actually meet another singaporean in tokyo, i missed 2 guys by a bit, 1 was returning to sg soon and had no time to meet up, another left like half an hour just before i arrived at a friend's party.
my theory is that most singaporeans can't be bothered to learn a new language thus the huge congregation in australia. my experience from the tons of people that tell me they want to learn japanese but have no time for classes and when i say i am self taught they come up with other excuses.
i've noticed however, that most of the chinese, taiwanese and hkers here tend to mix among themselves, and though they 'want to', never actually make any effort to get to know more japanese. all their free time is spent hanging out with other chinese. so you have those that've been here for 2 years and still can't string together a proper sentence.

but it's not easy to stay in japan.. if u are not a japanese.. u die die wont be a japanese citizen...but ur next generation still got chance..but.. once u in japan u wont wan to come back sg one lah... coz much fun there...second rated in japan or second rated in sg got no different right? hahaOriginally posted by nismoS132:me too.
i see no point returning.
not true leh. there's is an option for naturalisation, but have to be PR for 10 years first. which itself requires one to have stayed in japan for at least 10 years. so i'll only be getting it when i'm 40 something, probably already with kids and a mortgage.Originally posted by I-like-flings(m):but it's not easy to stay in japan.. if u are not a japanese.. u die die wont be a japanese citizen...but ur next generation still got chance..but.. once u in japan u wont wan to come back sg one lah... coz much fun there...second rated in japan or second rated in sg got no different right? haha
yes u can naturalisation.. but 10 yrs leh.. plus from what i heard.. naturalisation is still different from citizen... not like sg that giving out citizenship like nothing... i heard u will still be treated differently and ur ID card still different one...only ur next generation can be a REAL japanese...... europe? good place for retirement if u got money...if not u better try stay there first b4 hoping for too much..... but of coz... anywhere is still better than sg as they dun have PAP there..Originally posted by nismoS132:not true leh. there's is an option for naturalisation, but have to be PR for 10 years first. which itself requires one to have stayed in japan for at least 10 years. so i'll only be getting it when i'm 40 something, probably already with kids and a mortgage.
but who knows, by then i might be in europe. given an option though, i'll prefer to be in an asian country. maybe 20 years from now there is no more PAP and singapore will turn for the better.
