we haven't had snow here yet, but my cousin who lives in eastern Montana, said they had flurries already.

Stuck in Buffalo now. Been snowing all night. Several feet of snow on the ground. Hundreds of thousands without power. Of course I have no warm clothing. TV is saying this is the earliest lake effect snow fall ever and the worst Oct snow storm in 137 years.

I had just started working in MN when we were hit by the infamous "Halloween Snowstorm" of October 1991 that dumped 30" of snow in the Twin Cities within a 24-hour period. I was living in a ground-floor apartment at the time, and the wind had drifted and piled up the snow against my glass patio door, completely covering it. It was rather shocking to wake up that morning, draw the blinds and be greeted with a floor-to-ceiling wall of white.
Fortunately, since it was still relatively early in the season, the ground was still warm and most of the snow melted within a couple of days thereafter. -
