singaporeans in US: staying on after that

any s'poreans in US in this forum(california particularly)? does any one know the proper procedures for staying on and getting a job there after university? need some advice am planning to apply to college sometime soon! muchas gracias

woohoOO.... normally the second or last year of studies you can start to work...
then after graduate, you can start your intership at companies and while working, apply for work visa... then few years after... apply for ur green card..

on F1 VISA how to apply for H1B VISA!
unless U found a company to hire U..
U cannot apply for H1B VISA.
3 mths b4 graduation, U can apply for OPT.. that extends your F1 VISA by 1 yr upon graduation. U can use this to look for job..
no job.. bye bye go home..
have job.. U can apply for H1B1 VISA - 1 yr (need to renew every yr, unlimited renewal times but cannot apply for Green Card)
or U can apply for H1B VISA valid for 3 yrs, however only can renew 1 time and U can apply for Green Card.
with just a College degree, these days company might not want to go thru the hassle to apply for H1B VISA. Need to pay Legal Fees and Application fees.
If need to help U apply green card, need to advertise and proof that they cannot find a American or Green Card Holder that can replace you. Just a Bachelor degree, so easy to find someone to replace U. In that case, bye bye to your Green Card.. maybe bye bye to your job since they don't have to go thru so much trouble. Legal Fees no cheap sia.. like US$10K for green card application.
if U making less then US$70K and just Bachelor degree.. wait 5 to 6 yrs after submitting your application these days (of course need to stay in same company, change job, start again). Oh.. they mention after certain stage of the green card process, best don't leave the country.. else.. your may not get your green card or it will drag on and take longer for U to get it.
Thus I had friends that never leave States for like 6yrs.
If U have higher degree, plus U make more than US$70K, wait for like 3yrs+ after submitting your application and you will get your Green Card.
Theer is Quota for H1B VISA also.
with a Bachelor degree, expect the quota to hit in about 2 weeks from the start of application, Apr 1st.
with a Masters degree graduated from USA (Science only) no quota set, else subject to another set of quota. However usually hit in about 3mths fro start of application.
H1B1 no real quota, as number of Singaporeans and Chilleans applying way to little! -
any more loopholes and ways anot? maybe i should choose other countires for further studies since US immigration is such a bitch or maybe that green card lottery might possibly work...

I was told, he knew a Indian Company. Pay the a few thousand US dollars. They fake documents that U are working for them. U get your H1B VISA. After having a H1B VISA it will be easier to find job. Recently, there are checks going on for those who want to transfer VISA. INS will investigate former company...

Easier countries...
NZ.. study for 5yrs there auto get PR, had friend there working on it..
Sweden, Had friend went there study for 2yrs and in middle of it got PR
Canada, Qecbec Province... had friend able to speak french after 1yr of study.. applied and get PR.. Alot of PRC going that route, get PR in Canada and cross the boarder and find work. A hassle to apply for VISA, need to apply every yr to stay in USA to work.
OZ - in the past I heard very easy.. now? not sure liao.. -

I can easily find PRC or Indian or Taiwanese with Masters degree from not so good Uni.. willing to go down 1 level to fight for a job that require bachelor degree.
When they get hired.. company apply H1B VISA or even green card based on their Bachelor degree even they have a Masters degree. So common things going on. -

If it is the latter, then perhaps look at the skill shortage lists and act accordingly. -
