Believe it or not, I completely forgot about CNY until a non-Asian buddy reminded me about it. Apparently, he heard about the whole hong pau practice and wanted to shake me down for a few dollars... -

I think some of them (the sort who couldn't speak a word of mandarin or cantonese, can barely hold chopsticks) got a sort of an identity crisis ... and gone really ethnic ....
I counted 7 cheong sams (yes, in this kind of nutty weather) ... numerous embriodered tops, and a few champions who came to school in the kind of chinese robes straight out from a period drama ...
the cheong sams looked good on some of the chicks though ... 
(I did get a pot of authentic northern chinese dumplings from a bunch of shanghainese though ...
) -

Reunion dinner - steamboat
Day 1 - stay home watch movie.
Day 2 - back at work
Day 3 - still back at work
Day 4 - SSDD
But my home is CNY decked up, snacks tray, mandarin oranges, nian gao, egg rolls, fung li su, almond cookies, bak kua, cashews and mini shrimp rolls and dried spicy cuttlefish.
Those items in colour? Finished liao. -

Fung li su? Taiwanese version of pineapple mini "cake". Pastry but not tarts type. The pineapple jam is encased by the pastry. Hmm....delicious. I love this brand which is locally made. Very ex. C$12.99 a box of 15. There are cheaper version, product of Taiwan, like C$2.99 a box and another brand at say $C$3.99 thereabouts.
No lah. I have been sick. Dare not eat liao. Hubby was the culprit lah.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking.
Son? Nope. Like you, he had his exams. But first semester is over for him liao. Wrote his last papers yesterday. Phew!
You got ang pow or not? Did your parents mail you any? My son only got two. One from me and the other from his dad. When my dad was still healthy, he always mail him one but boh liao. And my sisters? Two of them stopped that practice liao and I have no prob with that. The other one? Well, she's always late. And sometimes give me one cheque for like CNY/birthday/Christmas.
Me? I never fail to send my nephews/nieces, in-laws and parents. Yes, I am still very traditional. -
parents will give me a big fat one, but put into the bank ... but have or not, doesn't really matter to me, they've given me so much liao ... as for the relatives, they'll hand the ang pows over to my younger bro and he'll take care of it for me ...Originally posted by littlestream:* piak own forehead *

Last CNY, we had fish head beehoon and cantonese breakfast.That was in Perth.The fish head beehoon is much better than anything ever tasted in SG.

Nothing much - a Singaporean friend of mine arranged a dinner at a restaurant. She got her partner's family to come along (with her partner of course), her brother's in-laws (brother being away in India on business) plus my girlfriend, long-lost cousin and myself. The food was all right (12 courses), but we were more interested in drinking and chatting. After talking to my freind's partner's mother, I think that it might be interesting running a school summer camp business.
BTW, my girlfriend, who's of Scottish descent, wore a silk kebaya top. Yours truly, on the other hand, was in slacks and a long-sleeved shirt. -
i had my steak sandwich, and went about doing my work, as per normal
didn't celebrate at all.
last year at least i gathered one Chinese and one Singaporean friend to have guo tie at my place.
this year that Chinese guy has gone back and I got lazy, so didn't do anything. -
