but i have to agree with him. how can the boss be so mean?
there are lots of capable people out there without a job, many due to their age. do you seriously believe in the government's propaganda of 'increase your employability by upgrading'?
ah.. i think u have misread me..
one first paragraph is targetted at the government.. heh.. when the union is state control.. there will be no protection against an average blue collar worker.. i felt pity for him too..
hence, my second paragraph.. if the union continues to be controlled by the state, we as citizens can only take care of ourselves by showing our economic worth..
the main question becomes should the government control the union?
1) Reasons for: it will be tough for the government to take care of everyone. Unless we turn into a welfare state.. but that would mean higher income tax for everyone else..
2) Reasons against: private companies will continue to exploit this loophole..
to be honest, i dont know which would be a better solution.. Ageism has become one of the biggest form of discrimination in the work arena.. due to the aging population.. you have more aged workers than the economy can handle.. this is happening not just in Singapore but elsewhere too..
Other countries do have a welfare social net to take care of aged citizens but not here..
At the end of the day.. I have no solution.. ha..
