so.. they've finally done it...
to make it "cheaper" for them to gouge us some more, they're going to use a satellite system to charge us...

Call for new ERP proposals
|
By Maria Almenoar |
THE Government is calling for technical proposals from industry players for a new generation Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system here. Transport Minister Raymond Lim made this announcement at the World Urban Transport Leaders Summit on Wednesday morning. Over a two year period, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will do various tests on satellite-based technology used for ERP. The biggest challenge will be Singapore's dense urban environment where tall buildings could potentially interfere with the system. Currently, there are no urban cities that use satellite-based technology for congestion charging. Germany uses this system but for open expressways for all trucks weighing 12 tonnes and above. In his speech, Mr Lim said LTA has been studying various technology applications and has identified a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) as one of these which makes use of satellites to determine the position of a vehicle. He said since the ERP system was implemented in 1998, it has been functioning on a gantry-based system, which charges motorists as they pass under these gantries when they are in operation. 'This system has served us well. However, as the number of vehicles on our roads increases over the longer term, congestion will become more extensive. It may become impractical to continue installing ever more physical gantries to manage congestion. 'We will therefore have to explore other solutions that would enable a more effective approach to implement congestion pricing which will help reduce the dependence on physical gantries.' In his speech, the minister added that the government is also looking into the development and use of green technologies in Singapore, and is test-bedding clean technologies in the transport sector. Examples include energy efficient lighting for traffic and street lights, recycled materials for road pavement construction, and construction methods that minimise the impact on the environment. |

seems like Raymond Lim is trying his damnest to outdo Mabok Tongue
Election coming.
Who has the best money making ideas?
Why not just increase the road tax? And charge motorist every 3 months instead of 6? Isn't that easier?
Distance Based Fares.
Now its more convenient and fair! 2.5% savings again!
Why not just do away the road tax? And charge motorist for every kilometer instead. With satelite isn't that easier?
Only the tunnels need overhead sensors to relay vehicle details to the satelite.
Just put barricades at every damn car park lor. You want your car out? You pay. You want in? you pay.
wat ever they do
its will just be more $$$ going into the goverment pocket

it costs money to build and maintain the barricades/gantries...
that is what the *$&#^ said in the news last night
WTF! They can spend millions and billions on ERP gantries and satellite based ERP. PM says it is expensive to build drain system to prevent flood and therefore live with floods... but got $$$$ to build new satellite based ERP.. what rubbish.
that means ERP can occur at any road in Singapore...as and when they "deem" there's jam. haha it's crazy. It's just another way to raise the revenue.

there's a jam just outside my estate when i want to exit it.. because there's a school there and the accursed parents must drop their precious snowflake children right at the gate instead of just dropping them off for them to walk the final 50m
so... suburban roads got congestion = ERP?
or congestion due to accident = ERP?
Haha, as expected. Everything the government do also will kena f up big time one
seriously... I tink the gahment need a new form of income sucking techniques...
Using satelite to track is getting out of hand. It's as good as telling us that in the future, they can do this: hey.... u din't turn up at the CC event. Why is your car parked at Geylang 7pm?
Whoa! New way to suck $$$ AGAIN !!!
Powerful ah!!!!
But really too much liao
' than than boon bo gao heng '
Hey all forumers, let's think about how they going to charge using this system...
I think instead of cash card, you'll slot your ATM card into the IU, every kilometre you travel, it will deduct $0.10 from your bank DIRECTLY!
Then if your bank account run out of money, will need to pay the Bank back with interest.
Win Win situation for Gahment and Banks!!!
'Wu liu cho deng than'
Will bus fare increase because of this? Buses have to pay ERP not?
It's really getting more and more expensive to buy a car =(
Bus so slow, MRT so pack, Taxi so ex =(((

Its cheaper to maintain satalites in outer space, and a facility to establish a link with the satalites, and all the database systems to store, transmit and recieve data, compared to a few thousand barricades.
moo moo...

Get the principal to allow parents to drive right into the school and drop off their precious tots right at the front lobby.
EPS at the gates = income for the school.

not wanna kp
some simply happily dun give way to e buses exiting either while forming to enter e skool compound. as if ppl taking bus dun need to get to work or to skool on time.
Think should make road tax expensive.

They should make road tax more expensive what, instead they make it cheaper. I recommend 1599cc and below pay $1600 per 3 months instead of $800+ every 6 months.
Do away with road tax.
Satelite can track the movement and charge by the centimeter.
Satelite can also charge parking charges, when vehicle stop at designated parking lots.
Satelite can also issue summons when vehicle stop or move at unauthorised road spaces i.e travel against flow of traffic, or making U-turn where it is not allowed.
Satelite can also catch weekend car cheats.
Satelite can also check tailgaters, road hog in overtaking lane.
Satelite can also notify police of single car parked at a secluded spot, movement detected but not moving.
