Vase as in Base not Vase as in Vast

  I was at a departmental store today.
  
  "Do you sell vase in here?" I asked.
  "Vase? Can you repeat?" the shop assistant said.
  "Do you sell flower vase in here?" I asked again.
  "Vast ah? Fla-whirl vast we have. It's called vast lah," shop assistant said.
  
  Thanks for correcting my pronounciation but then again it's called vase as in base and flower as in flour.
