  Do take note of this when you're buying an iPod mini.
  
  The iPod minis that are on sale at $318 at MOST shops(like Best Denki, Harvey Norman and Courts) are 1st-generation minis that have a 8-hour battery life.
  
  The 2nd-generation minis cost $348 (4GB) and $438 (6GB), and have a 18-hour battery life.

  so the newest ipod mini will be the 2nd generation one?
  i'm thinking of buying one by end of this month but dun really know what to look out for..
  what's the firewire cable for? so i'll need to charge the ipod using usb port? how much will the ac adapter and also the battery cost...?
  any idea where can i get a cheaper ipod mini?

  The Firewire cable can be used to transfer songs (provided you got a Firewire card in your PC) or to connect your iPod to the AC Adapter for charging.
  
  Since the 2nd generation iPod mini doesn't come with the Firewire cable and the AC Adapter, you have to charge it by connecting your iPod mini to your PC using the USB cable. The optional AC Adapter costs $54.
  
  The 4GB model costs $348 while the 6GB model costs $438 in most stores. If you're a student or educator, you can buy the 4GB model at $320 and the 6GB model at $403. Apple will deliver it to your house without additional charges.
