Speaking of netherworld..
Buddhism's reincarnation beliefs in 'Beings after death. next birth will be governed by last thought..Karma..etc
Taoism beliefs in 'Beings after death must go thru netherworld for their judgement which governed for their next birth...
So..

Recently went to a well-know and popular temple at minite 'encounter'..a Yin deity ' Tao Ah Pei ' Big uncle from 7 th courts in taoism 'netherworld'...He stated so; All beings and unbeings after death must gone thru-out ten courts in the act of individual judgments...And Tao uncle uttered,do not believe in buddhism or others religions nonsense theories in next life

no la...there are differences btw buddhism and Taoism beliefs in rebirth la -
the netherworld is also called 'yin jian' in Chinese. It is a place, that has 36 divisions all governed by 36 Lords of the Soil. Hell, or rather the place for sufferings are within the netherworld. The 10 courts also fall in the netherworld.
Other then that, the netherworld is a place for souls to residue, those ghosts or those haven reincarnate yet.
the actions done in the 10 courts, has NO against the law of cause and effect. In fact, it is a kind of 'Action After Review' done by the divines (10 kings of Yama). A summary of what human had done. No matter what we become, we will be 'brief' by the 10 courts.
The overall in charge of the 10 courts, are Lord Fengdu and Lord Taishan of Dongyue. There is NO bribery or wat so ever rubbish in hell, contary to superstious belief.
Those hell notes, offerings are an act to display filial peity from the living and also thru rituals, it can ease some sufferings from the soul and accumulate merits. It may sound funny that hell is so 'improvise'...using planes, handphones etc..whether or not they use it is not impt, what impt is it can accumulate merits for the souls and ease the sufferings comfort the spirits.
Thru rituals, it is a form of merits. -
