Not raise the educational requirements, continue keeping FT out and reserve it only for Singaporeans. Less educated Singaporeans also need this as back up job (eg Taxi uncle who needed 80 attempts to get vocational license).
In fact there are 50000 Singaporeans (non-active Taxi drivers) who already gotten Taxi vocational license who continue to renew it every year or few years who are playing it safe knowing they may be retrenched anytime by their companies.
So 100,000 Singaporeans want Taxi Drivers job not including others who want it as backup job but have not gotten Taxi Vocational License. The number of active taxi drivers already exceeds the no of regulars in SAF which happens to be the largest group out of all government-related organizations. This is the reason why they put ex-Chief of Army to head the Taxi Association.

$1500 / 4 weeks / 3 days = $125 nett a shift, good $$
New driver where got make so much one.... it is $1350/(3+3+3+3+1)=$103.80 to $1350/(3+3+3+3)=$112.50 nett a shift. And this is 12-hours job without CPF, without bonuses, without annual leaves and without holidays (just in case public sees this and say we make a lot).
It is $8.65 to $9.375 per hour without CPF, without bonus, without annual leaves and without public holidays.
It is $7.20 to $7.80 per hour with CPF but without bonus, without annual leaves and without public holidays.
If make it like civil servants with 3 months bonus, it is $5.76 to $6.24 per hour without annual leaves and without public holidays.
If include annual leaves and holidays which is roughtly 1 months pay, it is $5.28 to $5.72 per hour and this is without medical leaves and maternal leaves.
If make it 8.8 hours per day for 5-days week job to compare with salaried employees, it is like $46.46 to $50.34 per day only. So cabbies work long hours (12 hours) to make ends meet. Really cannot survive working like salaried employees (8.8 hours 5 days week) as it is only $1022.12 to $1107.48 per month which is about minimum wage level (cleaners' salary) in Singapore.
Wah means Mcdonald uncle earn more then us....lol
But old birds make more lah....that pretty lady new bird.
Ya lor, compared with salaried employees who only work 44 hours per week, cabbies (day shift) are leading a toughter life working 12x6=72 hours or 63.6% longer hours not including holidays. OMO ones worse.
That's y ..TD r classified as lower income citizens on govt. Table.
BUT when come to increase monthly salaries. These group TD will never in the loops.
BUT again when come to election topic TD r always no1.... mayb due to TD spread words faster
There is a clause in Comfort's Code of Conducts that forbids cabbies from talking about politics. So unless customers initiates, cabbies do not talk about it. But I do not know whether the 4 other taxi companies have such rules.
Politics is internet (yahoo.com, theonlinecitizen.com, sammyboy.com, www.tremeritus.com, etc..) talks and coffeshop talks (especially Hougang Blk 322). If cabbies do talk about it, they talk in one-hard-to-find coffeeshop among themselves in Telok Blangah.
But cabbies do spread news very fast even if they do not talk to customers about politics. 50,000 cabbies talk to wives, 100,000 knows about it. Talk to kids, 200,000 knows about it. Wives and kids spread to others, 400,000 to 800,000 knows about it. Total voters only 2,200,000. If Comfort does not have the rule to forbid talking about politics, cabbies could really affect election results. One day one cabby reaches out to 18-25 cusomers, 50,000 cabbies reach out to 1 million customers. 1 million customers spread, whole Singapore knows about it.
We all know it is we rent taxi only and we self-employed, but organization got some rules and regulations. See https://www.cdgtaxi.com.sg/cabbies_code_of_conduct.mvn .
